Description

When the island of Obbeeys got involved in the Second World War in 1943, the ROD and the Obbeeys Railway decided that that the Freayltys class wasn’t capable of handling all the goods traffic on the tramway. The presence of Loes was a great help, but she couldn’t do it all on her own. As a result they ordered to build another member of her class. At the same time, the ROD had designed a new Garratt class for the tramway and ordered two examples of these engines. They were finished in 1944, and were immediately put into service on the Deyrey-Insh tramway.

The House Garratts proved very successful on the line, and it didn’t take long before a rivalry started between the House Garratts and the LTM Garratts. This rivalry would last until 1967.
