Uggghh finally got this finished last night. The new staff smells like spray paint and tears lol

You'll have to buy it from Cool Neon online [link]
It's a little pricey, so I may recommend checking ebay or Amazon for pre-assembled el wire kits, especially if you don't know how to wire a circuit. The one I used from Cool Neon didn't have a switch so we had to add one in.
Retail stores don't carry el wire unfortunately.

This is a great tutorial. may i ask, would a 10 ft piece of pvc be okay? Home depot sells them standard that way, so i was just wondering. Im 5'2" if that helps XD

It's is concerning the heat gun. How much is a heat gun? And by chance you DO manage to burn yourself, what happens to your skin? ._. And is it powered by wire+electrical outlet or batteries?

I think the one I used was only like $10, and it's powered by an electrical outlet. I'm not really sure what it would do since I haven't been burnt by one myself. The end of the gun and where it's shooting out heat are really REALLY hot though, so I imagine it would blister pretty bad at the very least. It's pretty much just an extreme hair dryer, so it's really easy to use (this is the third prop I've used one on and still haven't been burnt), just make sure you're not waving your hands around in front of it and you should be fine lol. c:

Alright. XD Cause last time I used a hot glue gun, I burned my finger three times in to minutes... so I sort of have a knack for burning myself if its something like that.

I'd say a heat gun is a lot easier to use without burning yourself than a hot glue gun by far lol so I wouldn't worry too much about it xD

Alright. And another question. I want to bring the staff to a con in my state, but the prop height limit is 6 feet. Would the lights that you linked in the description be too long for that? ._.

No actually, since you would wrap them around the staff. The lights on mine, unwrapped, are still the full 10 ft, which is about right (my staff is around 5'8")

Oh wait, and one quick question! Sorry! ><;;; this is my first time making a prop.. But what do you mean that hardware was removed from the battery pack? ._. Will it be like that when I order it or would I have to do it myself?

Well, if you order your wire from Cool Neon, they don't even give you a battery pack with the Plug and Play kits ([link] the el wire will plug into one end and the battery attaches to the other), so you'd have to go out and see if you could find a project box (battery pack) at a Radio Shack or something that would be big enough to hold a 9V battery. I just happened to have one lying around lol.
"Removing the hardware" means I took out the metal prongs and wires that were in the battery pack for the AA batteries since they won't fit with a 9V.
I will also tell you that the "peacock" driver I had linked doesn't have a switch to turn it on or off, so you'd have to either solder on a switch or just remove the battery when you want it to be off (which I don't recommend. at all.)
Since this is your first time making a prop, and I'm assuming you probably don't have any soldering equipment laying around, I'm gonna say you might be better off ordering an el wire kit from amazon, since they've already got the battery packs and switches built in.
This is the kit I used on my first staff [link] It's more of a blue than an aqua color, but it's just about as bright, and all of the wiring and everything is taken care of (plus it's cheaper lol)

And for that one all I would need is the AA batteries? Cause I wouldn't feel too comfortable taking it apart if I don't really know what I'm doing..

Yup! Although the color of the lights will be a little off, and they'll be a little dimmer. But it saves you a load of work if you're not familiar with circuits. c:
So really all you would have to do is attach the battery pack to the staff and that's it.

And make a separate piece to be sort of a lid on top of the battery pack, right? C: I don't mind dimmer lights, at least it's something. XD Thanks for answering all my questions!

The battery pack already has a lid, you just have to make sure you don't accidentally tape it or glue it onto the staff.
