Description
Taken on an April 4 outing, and my first lesson in photography from Shaun. He took some beautiful panorama shots, which will be uploaded to his gallery soon. You can all see why I've been complaining about snow in the Spring here. These are part of the Rocky Mountains, at the edge of the Bob Marshall Wilderness, and a few miles south of Glacier National Park. The river is the main branch of the Flathead, which flows out of the Park.
[For some weird reason, the camera gives a date for this picture, a year before Shaun bought it. We haven't been able to figure out how to fix this, so please just ignore that. The date really was April 4, 2009.]

Thank you for posting this picture. I am moving to Montana later this year. Thank you for making it seem less scary. I now see that it is quite a beautiful place. So again, thank you.

Thanks! I can appreciate the snow more in July, when it's too hot in the house. I just get grumpy after 6 months of cold.

Very nice. I'm planning to come to Montana/Wyoming next year to go hiking in the Beartoohths, and possibly down into Yellowstone or the Tetons. Bozeman looks like a good base. You live in a beautiful area of the world.

Thank-you! I wouldn't trade it for anything. My husband has suggested moving to warmer parts of the country, but I don't want to leave.

Thank-you! It's what we see out our bedroom window too, but we tend to forget how beautiful it is. The reaction I got to this photo reminds me of how fortunate we are to live here.

absolutely. I think it would be quite refreshing to see this instead of sky scrappers and smog.

You're right, now I understand your talks about snow! This is wonderfully majestic, with great colours and lighting. For my part, I'm used to small hills...I visited Switzerland once, went on top of Jungfrau and was completely bowled over by what I felt, not only on the top of the mountain, but on the way to it in a train. The train would stop at every village on the way, and such quietness, purity of air and way of life I had never experienced. It was a grandiose experience.

I always think of Canada as being full of mountain ranges, probably because I've only been to B.C., Alberta and Yukon Territory. I forget that the Great Plains extend north past the border. You still get more than your fair share of snow, though. I've always wanted to see Switzerland. Every photo makes it look like something out of a fairy tale. Lucky you!

What is great about Switzerland is that it's not all vertiginous mountains. You get the middle sized ones, in the Plateau part near France, where they are lush with greenery. The roads there are very narrow, serpentine and steep, sometimes connected together by old beautiful bridges, suspended high on top of ravines.

Thanks, Anna! We are very fortunate. The economy here is terrible, but the Pacific Northwest is the most beautiful place on Earth. At least we can be poor in paradise.

Thank you! It is a beautiful place to live. Unfortunately, we tend to forget that and take it for granted, because we're so used to looking at it. I was surprised at the reaction to this photo and it made me look around and try to see what our valley looks like to the tourists.
