A mock-up of a style I would like to see being used in Windows 8.I just wanted to express my views on the future of Windows, and since I found this wonderful contest, I decided there couldn't be a better way to share my ideas...

Changes I would like to see in Windows 8:
1. Do away with AeroGlass! I would really like to see a different view on the use of transparency - there should be a greater degree of window opacity.
2. Bring in a black and grey carbon-themed skin.
3. Make the Start Menu feature a cut-down version of Explorer to allow you to actually "start" directly with your files.
4. Improve the logon screen.
5. Separate the permanent elements of the taskbar and the open windows into two separate bars.
6. Make the more common buttons simple to access.
7. Add transparency to inactive windows in order to bring focus onto active ones.
What I would like to be kept the same:
1. Keep the Window switching method in Windows 7, but use names instead of icons.
2. Keep Flip3D (though I hardly use it any more
)3. Maintain the stability and the performance speeds experienced in Windows 7 (which is now my primary OS).

Hello Salman Arif, I did understand your rationale behind this aesthetic design that calms one mind on the system without distractions here and there
but we must know that all fingers aren't equal so i might love it and kinda hope others do too. Our desire and needs tends to temper art appreciations
sometimes, but i hope to see something of this in future if not now but any time will be fine by me. Keep up the good work mate.

Wow, amazing... I love the colors here. The black and gray works well, and the transparency makes the wallpaper (which I would like to request) feel like more than just a wallpaper. I feel conflicted about losing transparency; something like [link] makes it feel great, but sometimes, it's just plain annoying. But I love transparency on the taskbar, which I see you have kept. And your concept of two bars is something I have been using rainmeter to achieve, although not exactly the way it's shown here. Everything in here is certainly something I would rather use than any available Windows skin.

Thanks! I too was unable to decide whether to keep transparency or not, but went without it in the end! As for the wallpaper, it's a cropped out stock photo. I can email it to you if you want, but the resolution can't be higher than 1280x800... :[

You should work with another theme skinner here on DeviantArt, I'm sure if you find a good skinner they'll be willing to help bring life to your concept!

It's a mockup. I'd love to skin it, but seeing that I'm not exactly a skinner nor do I get the time to manage my deviantART account these days because of college, I don't think I'll be able to do so.

Actually, you can still turn your black/white carbon theme into an actual windows 7 theme. that would be fucking awseom too have your windows 8 desktop for a theme.

It's just a mockup created using Photoshop... The winner would have gotten their skin converted into a fully working design... : )
