Description ~426maxwedgie didn't actually get my 10,000th pageview; bizarrely enough, I did. He was, however, the only one who claimed to come close to it, so I gave it to him.

He asked me to draw his character, Nova A. Peerless, in his garage with six specific racing cars. I had the idea of getting it all to fit by having the garage be a huge display area and having the view being from overhead, looking into the corner of the display where Nova was.

I was going to try drawing the whole thing as one picture, but the sheer magnitude of it, plus the prospect of one mistake destroying the whole work, led me away from that path. So I used a modular approach instead, drawing seven separate lineart pictures and scanning, editing, manipulating, and colouring them until they became what you see here.

Clockwise from top left, the cars are:

Porsche 917-30 Can-Am car
Ferrari 330P4 Sports Prototype
Auto Union Type C Grand Prix car
Alfa Romeo P3 Grand Prix car
British Racing Motors (BRM) Type 15 Grand Prix car
Maserati 250F Grand Prix car

While ~426maxwedgie did not specify in writing which 917 he wanted, he sent a sample picture showing a 917K, the five-litre flat-12 monster car that, thanks to stringent regulations and a general slowing of the track, had the fastest average time a car will ever have at the 24 Heures du Mans.

So why did I change it to the 917-30?

Because the 917-30 is the kind of car that Tim "Tool Man" Taylor would say had *enough* power. Not only did they add twin turbochargers to it (creating the 917-10) they increased displacement to 5.4 L, so that the already massive power of the 917K would be boosted to 1100 hp in race trim.

I have posted a half-size JPEG here; I shall send the full-size version to Max as soon as I can.

Ooo, that's awesome! I love the perspective in this! All of the cars look so great, and Nova looks wonderful too. Nicely done!

Thank you.

I did a preliminary sketch that looked like this in a very basic way and then I drew the larger, more detailed sketches and lineart for each car in the same point of view as it was in the basic sketch. (...except for the BRM, which I hadn't figured out for the basic sketch so it wasn't there, just a space left for it! )

The uncompressed version has anywhere between eight and eleven layers.

You're welcome!

Ooo, that's a very clever way to do it. I shall have to remember that if I need to do a lot of cars or figures in general from the same angle. ^.^

You'll remember when you're doing the preliminary sketch and you think to yourself: "OMG, how am I going to do detailed drawings of all of these at the correct angle *and* get the proportions right relative to each other? "

...actually, I didn't get the proportions relative to each other fully right, but it's not as bad as it could have been...

When that day comes, I'll be sure to give you full credit and a huge thank you for the way to do it.

Sorry to hear things have been going badly.

Good to hear that this has been of help, though.

Yeah, they're getting better now.

Oh yeah, this was a highlight of my weekend. It kinda reminds me of a NES game.
