Full view will give you... *ahem* ...the full view!I had the idea of drawing anthro versions of the six main characters of Azumanga Daioh as anthros. This is not as cute as a Chiyo anthro should be, but it's O.K., so I'm submitting it anyway.

Awww, she's so cute! The pigtail-elongated ears almost look like puppy ears, but her face, bell-collar and tail suggest the cat. She still retaints her cuteness, which is what matters most for Chiyo, nee? ^ ^

This was probably the least imaginative one. She's worn two cat costumes during the show and a third in Sakaki's daydream, so picturing her as a cat was no deal at all. The bell was actually straight from Episode 12.
Yep, I stretched the ears out to try to get the pigtail effect, which caused one viewer to think she was a rabbit.
Then again, Sakaki would think of her as a cat, seeing that she thinks her father is a cat...
I get the feeling that Chiyo wants to be cute just as little as Sakaki wants to be cool. Which would be just about as bad for Chiyo as it is for Sakaki because neither of them can help but be what they are. (And after the snowball incident, Sakaki's coolness is absolutely beyond debate.)

I think anyone would choose a cat for Chiyo, though. It just... suits her. Puppies and bunnies would be the other options, but I think cats are best for Chiyo.
I've always wondered what Sakaki thought Chiyo's mother would look like? A pink or white cat with pigtails?
I've always liked that "relationship" of Chiyo and Sakaki; wanting what the other has, despite the other wanting what they have. I don't think they quite understand that the other wants to be like them... in fact, I'm not sure if Chiyo even knew entil episode 24.

A lot of people think that the scene in Episode 9 where Chiyo is trying to get Sakaki to give her back her height (!) is funny, but I find it sad and touching. Not only does Sakaki not have height that would be Chiyo's, she would not want it and would probably give Chiyo half her *own* height if she could!
Another sad part is when Chiyo complained about the sophomores to Sakaki. Sakaki told her she didn't understand either, but she didn't recognize that she knew exactly how it was...

I found those scenes sad and touching as well, which is why I love them so much.
Sakaki and Chiyo have exactly the same problems, but to the two different extremes; Chiyo finds it hard to fit in because people look down on her and see her more as a "cute little mascot" than a classmate, and Sakaki finds it hard to fit in because people look up to her and think she's "too cool for them".
With that said, Sakaki does know how Chiyo feels, only she gets the complete opposite... but she seems to be the type to take things extremely literally (i.e. being worried that Nekokoneko was "dead", when Kaguta called her a "sniper"). Also, she might not be able to see that being small and cute could lead to the same negative feelings as being tall and cool, just as Chiyo can't see vice versa.

Sakaki had long imagined that stuffed animals had lives. Her "anonymous" suggestion that the class should have a stuffed animal display for their cultural festival included the idea that the stuffed animals would be happy to meet new friends. She refers to the two stuffed cats she won in the crane game as sisters. It was therefore not to great a leap for her to believe she had killed Nekokoneko when Kagura declared that she had, especially since she *did* shoot it...
I think that one day, when they've both grown up, they'll discuss the old days and realize that each was the other's ideal. Hopefully, they'll be comfortable enough with who they are to be philosophical about it.

Did I get it *that* wrong? She was supposed to be a cat!
This is the only one of the three that is based on a scene from the show itself, albeit loosely. The original scene is in Episode 11, I think...

Ahh...I haven't seen that episode yet. That might be why I misinterpreted it. My mistake. *massive sweatdrop* The elongated ears made me think more of a rabbit...but the whiskers and face look more cat-ish.

Acutally, I made the ears extra-long so that they would look like the pigtails, but I didn't realize that it would make her look like a rabbit.
The full view should show her tail, which is too long for a rabbit's, and not fluffy enough. It should also show the bell on her collar more clearly.
I was wrong about it being in Episode 11, it was actually in Episode 12.

^^ That's alright...has I haven't gotten that far either. I'm still at episode 4.
The tail is indeed a cat's as opposed to a rabbit's. And the bell collar should have given me a hint. *sweatdrops* That's my own mistake...
