Description The coloured version of this: [link]

Samuel Johnson called remarriage "The triumph of hope over experience".

That phrase came to mind a different way when I thought of this picture.

Charlie Brown and Sakaki would freak out upon seeing this...

For one minute, I'd like to see those two animals that kill each other to death on the Simpsons. You gave me that memory after looking at this.

Just too awesome! I like how you did the clouds in the sky! Kamineko looks great!!! Really nicely done!!!

Thank you.

It's a trick I learned from *chibi-jen-hen : colouring the lines in the lineart. I made the cloud outlines white, the ball outlines dark green, most of Kamineko's outlines dark grey except for the outlines of the exposed teeth which I left as black, and the horizon line the same blue-green colour as the field.

coloured the lines in her lineart once and said "Never again!" This one was simple, though.

You're very welcome!

I always wondered how one gets the lines colored as well...is it simply by tracing over them? It really adds something to the composition!

There's usually a feature in CG packages (at least in low-level ones like MSPaint and Arcsoft PhotoImpression) called "bucket fill" If it's applied to a solid colour (in MSPaint) or even a relatively solid colour (in PhotoImpression), it will change that colour to the selected colour.

How I use that on lineart is that I put a thin line at the ends of where I want the lineart filled to (with the lines either in the intended fill colour or the intended colour of the other side), and then, when all the limits are blocked off, I apply the bucket fill.

What usually happens after that is that the whole lineart turns that colour anyway and I use the "Undo" feature, followed by a search of the lineart to find the place where I didn't block the lineart off... ...but occasionally I get it right the first time. Another frequent problem occurs when I miss the lineart completely and colour either the inside or the outside of it, which also calls for application of the "Undo" feature. That's why I usually colour lineart with lots of zoom, to try to make sure that I hit the line.

That sounds incredibly pain-staking to do though! It does look great after it's all done...but I can see why Chibi said she wasn't going to do it anymore, especially with her pieces that are so detailed in the lineart. I can imagine that'd be almost torturous.

Either way though, you did a really great job on this piece, and I can really fully appreciate the hard work put into those colored lines!

It is tiresome at times. I don't think I would have done it if I wasn't on a long weekend...

awww, but for some reason I'm thinkin of Charlie Brown when he misses the ball...

Or when the ball is pulled from him.

Lucy always sets up the ball and tells Charlie Brown to kick it.
Charlie Brown always knows that Lucy is going to pull the ball away.
Lucy always persuades him to try to kick the ball.
Lucy always pulls the ball away, leaving Charlie Brown to kick wildly in the air and land flat on his back.

That's in Peanuts. In Azumanga Daioh:

Sakaki always sees Kamineko lazing about somewhere.
Sakaki always tries to pet Kamineko or offer him something to eat
Kamineko almost always bites Sakaki (on rare occasions he just runs away...)

Both Charlie Brown and Sakaki continue to do what they do despite knowing that pain is the only result they have ever experienced from their actions.

So the football symbolizes Charlie Brown's eternal (and eternally dashed) hope and Kamineko symbolizes Sakaki's.

~Silver249 , however, gives an intriguing possibility as to how these symbols of frustrated hope might end up...

Hmm... Charlie Brown kicking Kamineko... that *would* be funny. It would also be payback for all the times Kamineko has bitten Sakaki. Especially if Kamineko really does pull the ball away like Lucy always does...
