Description ~BloodPromiser faved one of my photos the other day and I went to her front page to see who she was. I was greeted there by this lovely ID photo: [link] .

I decided right then and there that I would draw a picture of the photo, but I didn't get around to doing so until yesterday. I e-mailed the result to her with a request for permission to post it here. Having received her permission, I have done so.

Ooo, nicely done! I think you did a great job interpreting the photo as a drawing. I particularly like the use of high-contrast to replace the sort of "tenebristic" feel the original photo had. ^.^ Nice work!

Hunting for the meaning of the word "tenebristic" has been an education in the history of Renaissance art.

I remember, shortly after I first came to dA, seeing some quite beautiful, expressive, and detailed pictures completely in monochrome with no shades of gray. I have always wanted to be able to do that. (I wish I could remember what they were and who did them! I don't think I faved them; they never show up on the random faves... )

One day I should try this again. I want to get the part beside her mouth better. The way I have it doesn't look good to me...

It's one of my most favorite styles! ^.^ The Renaissance artists were the masters of it, but I love it when it pops up in contemporary art. It's so beautiful.
