Description In my childhood and adolescence, my Uncle Stan would visit my family every week. The discussions we had with him would just about always be interesting. We would also go to his house for Christmas.

Uncle Stan died last Sunday in a nursing home. He had prostate cancer, but I don't know if that was the cause of death. He was also rather profoundly senile, but I don't know if it was Alzheimer's disease or some kind of dementia.

A funeral service was held for him yesterday. As part of my policy that the next funeral I'm going to will be mine, I did not attend. I figured I should do something to remember him, however, and so I drew a picture of him.

The original drawing was done entirely from memory... and looked nothing like him. Reference to the photo in the newspaper obituary helped, but not very noticeably. One of my sisters brought my mother home from the funeral, and I asked her why the picture didn't look like him. She gave me several reasons and also showed me the picture of him on the back of the funeral programme. These helped a *lot*.

So this is a picture of my Uncle Stan, may he rest in peace.

Aww, I'm awful sorry to hear about what happened to your uncle. May he rest in peace then.

This is a very beautiful tribute to him though. He looks very stoic and wise in your drawing of him.

He generally looked stoic and wise. He didn't always sound that way, though.

I sincerely hope he has found eternal peace.

Then again, you don't know what he really looked like...

Thank you.

It was largely because of guilt for not going to his funeral.
