Description I had expected to draw many pictures in Barbados. I had expected to go to Bathsheba, Farley Hill, Gun Hill, and all the scenic places, and to draw what I saw as well as photograph them.

As it turned out, I had neither a carn or a bag, and I was afraid of losing either my camera or my drawing book and clipboard if I carried them both, so I usually just carried my camera.

However, when I went to what I always knew as Accra Beach (although the powers that be are trying to have it called Rockley Beach), I carried the drawing pad and clipboard instead of the camera.

This led me to draw a picture of a woman sleeping on a deck chair on the beach, with Rockley Gap in the background. Rockley Gap was not in the background at the angle at which I saw the woman. I drew Rockley Gap in the background because I wanted the more curious onlookers to think I was drawing Rockley Gap, which was in a different direction altogether than the woman was. I also worked on the background every time she stirred in her sleep.

I was so afraid that I'd ruin this picture by inking it that I scanned it as a pencil drawing and used PhotoImpression to darken it. I then printed it, made corrections with a pan and some Wite-Out, scanned the print in monochrome, and made further corrections with PhotoImpression and MSPaint.

Ahh...the art of drawing someone without letting them know you're drawing them. Or letting the people around you know what you're drawing.

This looks really nice. I like the background work you did and the woman looks great as well. I like how you captured her pose too.
