This tutorial is really helpful. I've been looking for a way to try to learn abit more about the coloring process. So thanks alot!

I got one question though .. when you do the finishing touches of the shading etc .. do you pain ontop of the sketch layer? Since some of the lines are still there, and some arent.

Thankyou!

Have no doubt -- it's a good tutorial, and definitely helpful! The Photoshop tips at the bottom right ALONE will save me so much time (just never took the time to notice the keyboard shortcuts for switching tools).

THANK YOU!

Thank you so, so much for this. I am having some trouble blending my colors properly, and your work has always been an inspiration for me. This will help quite a bit!

So you do all of your colors on the same layer, and the shadows on a layer on top of that?

Amazing and very useful! What do you do with the lineart layer, though... do you paint in a layer above it, and then hide it afterwards?

It's simple and easy to understand; and the fact that you added a custom brush too is really helpful. Not many people do that ^^

Thankyou so much for taking the time to make this!

chafe In reply to ??? [2008-10-24 19:50:09 +0000 UTC]

Ooh, very nice. This is one of very few tutorials I've ever found is accessible to me. Usually they present too much information at once, and while I understand it, I'm not motivated to try it. This is someone who uses the hard round brush almost exclusively, just changing size and opacity. So... maybe this will help break me in to brushes, because I've always danced around them, stopping and starting and never really learning how to use different ones effectively.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sandara In reply to chafe [2008-10-25 03:45:28 +0000 UTC]

usually i don't use many brushes at once too. i just find the few i like and stick with them all the way. so it's just a matter of finding the right brush for your style of art, i guess.
