Description I drew this for my introductory drawing class. I really enjoyed my Drawing I class. It was early in the morning and 2 hours long 3 times a week, but who could say no to drawing? I expected to be totally amateurish compared to other students, but the class really boosted my confidence in my drawing skills and I learned a few things. This assignment's theme was reflection, and we had to have a person in it somewhere. I was surprised with myself that I didn't actually put a person in full detail rather than a reflection of one as I enjoy drawing people so much, but it's also something I like about it, the person is secondary.

Just got my digital camera(it rox) today so I took a picture of it. Hope you enjoy it even though it's not anime.

36 x 24(Two 18x12s put together). Done in charcoal. Minor tweaking was done with photoshop to crop it and adjust contrast.

Hey first of all thanks for all your tutorials I printed them out and painted my walls with them no kidding here.
Secondly - and due to the numerous comments you probably definitely already know - I find this to be insanely amazing falling short (insanitywise) only to your comment that you thought this would be amateurish. Then again I am no expert but this and your tutorials got me so worked up that I can't stop sketching and drawing. THanks for stuff and have a nice life

This is charcoal? Thats amazing.
Even in a more controlled substance, this is really well done!

Yep, stick charcoal. I like the smooth, dark grades when drawing : ) If you start off with a ground, filling everything with a middle grey, you have a bit more control... since you can both erase and make things darker.

omg! how did you do that in charcoal on so big an area with 0 smudges? *_*, that is insane!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sashas In reply to botchiball [2006-12-28 02:34:35 +0000 UTC]

I covered the entire drawing with charcoal sticks, so that everything was the same tone, and then I started erasing from that. I used charcoal pencils to get darker values where I needed them and then blended with toilet paper/paper towels/q-tips. Also I used the eraser from my mechanical pencils to erase from smaller areas, and to get really nice hightlights. I used white charcoal where there were glares. :d

This is nothing, I had this one girl who literarly drew without pressing her hand against the paper so her charcoal drawings had no smudging... at all O.O It was amazing.

Such a lovely work of art. But ARG! Is that a crease where you folded your fantabulous drawing in half!?!? I really hope it isn't the case. Resist the urge of wanting to fold you drawings! If it isn't the case, the drawing is still phenomenal, lovely shading, and excellent attention to detail.

The way you captured light reflecting from within the water droplets is unbelieveable...
And all with just charcoal? I'm speachless.
The details, the softness, the shadows, the opacity; its just awesome. Completely awesome.

Congrats, this is more than extraordinary. I feel that more amazing art has yet to come if this is only from an introductory class. Keep it up!

sashas In reply to ultema [2006-05-23 20:33:42 +0000 UTC]

Thank you ^^

Yes, real media is expensive, but this really wasn't that bad. I used compressed charcoal which was like 4 dollars for a whole pack, a vinyl eraser--less than a dollar, and some big sheets of paper from a big artpad. So it didn't hit me too hard ^^

...well, I steal the essense of talented little children as they sleep....I mean I practice

I used some papertowels and my fingers for the blending This really didn't take a long time. Maybe four or five hours.

I'm really pleased you like it. Thank you ^_____^
