Description EDIT:YAY! I TOTALLY FINISHED THIS TUTORIAL. YOU MAY SEE IT HERE: [link]

PREVIEW... It only contains one-point perspective.

If some of you could read what I have so far(it's long T///T) and tell me if I makes sense thus far... cuz I got up early this morning working on it and the more I read it, the more I think it makes no sense at all. It's supposed to contain two-point, three-point, and curvilinear perspective... eventually.

I'll delete this version once I get some feedback...

Gah, it's not even half finished and it's like 2/3 the length of my penciling tutorial XD anyway, off to study art history now T__T

Would it be alright if I used some of this information in an art class I teach? Just some of the definitions, nothing word for word copied, but I found this extremely helpful for kids their level and intelligence.

*eye twitches* So.... much... reading..... But it is very useful! I was shockd when I couldn't look away from your vanishing point in your drawing of Toast! O_O It was like I was transfixed on it or something.... Spooky. Anyways, I really hope to see a two-point and three-point perspective thingimajig from you, because this makes alot more sence than my teacher from two years ago.

This is really helpful, considering my art class consists of copying and distorting things. I don't think my art teacher even knows what perspective is. Something totally clicked in my head looking at this. Thank you for being more usefull than school.

Evil-Tomato-Glomp [2007-04-28 05:46:55 +0000 UTC]

Reading this was very helpful. Some stuff I knew, but this tutorial helped...synthesize it, is the best way I can put it. I understand it a bit more, and I've been having problems with it lately (more like I notice my mistakes more...). Most art tutorials and the like only mention perspective in passing, and only show the one/two point linear perspective. : (

The writing here is clear and coherent, which is the best sort. The progress is very logical and flows well. I didn't once think, "Wait, what is this about now?!" when it came to a topic change.
However, in the part "Point to Point", second paragraph, there's the phrase in bold "The vanishing point is the point at which" then it goes to "Look to the left." That was the one part where I had a problem with this, (in a tutorial of this length and detail, that's pretty impressive. And oh wow it's incomplete. ) but it was very distracting.
The diagrams were done very well, being simple, neat, and to the point. This tutorial definitely feels very professional.

@__@ You're amazing. Even though I've pretty much got one point perspective down pat I still learned something from this. I absolutely fail at 2-point and am clueless at 3-point, though, so I'm waiting eagerly for your next tutorial.

Morike [2007-04-11 20:59:35 +0000 UTC]

thank you for covering this!! once you get more in depth with the other perspectives, I'm sure a LOT of people will find some use for this. From what I've read, I can guess at two and three point, but the curvilinear interests me. Mostly because I've never heard of it.

Go on and continue!! This is really useful information!

I think it was a very informative tutorial so far. It's really refreshing to see someone really try to explain perspective instead of just launch into the whole vanishing point dealy. I assume it will become clearer how to actually implement this perspective in an art piece...since I know when trying to stick a building into a piece, it looks really awkward if you don't pick the right vanishing point(s).

Anyways. Keep up the good work So far it's great!

Sashas, this is amazingly well done! You shouldn't be worried about length, as something as complex as perspective can't be explained in a paragraph or two! In fact, the longer the more thorough the explanation. Though in some instances [ like ten pages... ] on perspective can be insane to hold on to, your explainations are in a familliar tone, feel like you're speaking directly to me, and thus concept is easy to grasp and length doesn't really matter

I undertsood everything clearly; the only thing I would do is meddle a bit in how foreground, middleground, and background can effect perspective more before you start explaining point perspective. Uhm, I'm not sure if you know what I'm speakin about so I did something really quick to maybe explain myself better [link]

You already explained Size, Position, & Colour but actually combining all three can make for pretty decent perspective with one, two, or three points, even if the squares aren't three-dimensional cubes....though this would only make the tutorial longer xp Uhm, please ignore my 2c though! I hope I don't sound rude or anything xD;; I really don't want to take over your tutorial lol.

Anyways, if you're worried about current length, and even when you finish it up, you could always split the tutorial up in to several deviations / images. [ don't know if you were planning on doing that or not ] Might be easier on some people's computers as well x3

But seriously, I know nothig about point perspective, ...always confuses the hell out of me. But the way you explained makes a lot of sense, especially when thinking about it with the eye level in mind. I can't wait until you dive into two & three point! [ those two turn my few brains to mush ] Hopefully I'll be able to use perspective in my art then >D [ ...normally try to avoid it x.x; ]

I'll be faving this once you complete it <3~

Question! About the eye level line...does it always have to be in the middle? *swt swt*

Thank you on this tut Sashas!! Your a saver!! I've always wanted to understand perspective..but the books always get me confused.. D:
