Artist's Notes: Here is the third main character of The Ranger series, a paladin cast out of his order on a quest for redemption, along with his trusty steed the Orichalkodon, a ceratopsian descendant that eats a a special kind of horse tail that takes in the enchanted metal orichalcum, which is metabolized by the dinosaur and utilized in the creation of it's pangolin like scales. If the design of the creature looks familiar, it is based on the same concept as the spike tailed goliath Squamastega from my retrosaur series, although I came up with the concept for these guys long before the retrosaur series. I just like pangolins and dinosaurs so I like combining them as well. I wanted to give the paladin armor that gave him a similar appearance to his saurian companion, with a horned full helm based on the teutonic knights and scaled armor based on Roman lorica squamata, but I think it may have given him the appearance of a player character midway through an oldschool RPG, wearing whatever armor he can find with no aesthetic cohesion between his various pieces of equipment. Also, I made the halberd way too long and top heavy, I wanted to give him a halberd but I wasn't sure how he would use it atop such a huge beast. As for the Orichalkodon I really like how the face turned out but the scales are a little wierd in some places, as it turns out large scales are hard to do in three dimensions. I'm not going to reveal too much of the story behind this character yet, but his story along with the plague doctor's are the two that I'm most excited to tell should I ever get around to making this a full blown series.

What other animals live in this world?

The Cathartoraptor from my previous post is one.Β  The world has an extensive list of creatures. Most of them will be my personal interpretation of typical fantasy creatures like dragons and griffins, with varying levels of scientific plausibility and others will be speculative descendants of extinct creatures, I don't want to give too much away just yet as I am still brainstorming. I'm planning on posting pages of a bestiary for this world with information on how the different creatures obtain food, interact with their environment, defend against predators, etc. Does that sound like something you would be interested in seeing?

Hell yeah I'd be interested in seeing a bestiary! Ecosystems in fantasy worlds are the coolest shit!

You’ve put a lot of thought into this and the designs look great because of it

Lawful good fighter with divine magic? That’s a paladin.

Arboreals cale-plated member of the anteater family? That’s a pangolin.

Yours sounds familiar but I'm not sure if I've actually heard it. There is a possibility we are referencing the same thing though, it's been a while since I've seen it.

Thanks, I tried to make him both imposing and disarming, like a gentle giant.
