**This edition of Scalawags for DA's Film Gallery Premiere**We had the wonderful opportunity to work alongside a handful of talented graduating music majors from USC the past winter, and as a result Scalawags now has its own beautiful score composed by David Stanton. This makes Scalawags a completely original piece, ready for film festivals!

From concept to completion this project took us 11 weeks to produce. We spent four weeks in pre-production and five weeks animating and compositing. One week at the end to enjoy our pizza and watch the movie.

Kudos to David Stanton for the fantastic score! The intro was extremely well done also, excellent use of 3D. I understand this was student-produced, but the animation seemed very poppy at times and could have benefited from a few more inbetweens here and there. Overall a job well done, but the strongest parts were the opening and closing credits, which were very professionally rendered. Good job guys.

Solid animation. Wonderful color work. Excellent opening.
All that aside, I do have some critiques. First, the opener and the credits account for nearly half the length of the entire movie. If a 2 hour feature can get its credits in under 7 minutes then a 3 minute short shouldn't have credits lasting more than 30 seconds. Even with a lot of people involved it's possible.
Second, nothing happened. The kids were cute and their pirate themed imaginings are fun to watch, but I barely felt like things had gotten started before the credits rolled.
Overall it's cute, with some high quality visuals. Beyond that, I'm sorry to say, it doesn't really impress.

Very professionally done. However, I had a hard time hearing the dialogue clearly, at least at first. I would suggest more gain on the vocal track. Otherwise great.
