I got my tablet working again yay! So apparently in terms of people, this piece is what I can do with a tablet, whereas this link here ( scythickitty.deviantart.com/ar… ) is my limit with just my finger. Hmm. Looks a wee bit different for the details.
This is one of my many Muses (or OCs or characters or whatever it is youngin's call them nowadays). We don't know what her name is, so we just call her Doorknob, the magical undead door guarding spirit of magical spirtness. Also that's not blood. That's just dissolving said magical spiritness.

Doorknob belongs to me. Any similarities to other characters is purely coincidental.

I was just browsing through your collection and this one definitely grabbed my eye. I love how the white skin tone contracts with the background-- it's immediately eye-catching. Then when I clicked on this picture it didn't disappoint-- love the blood/ ink drip details. Also, I need to learn how to draw hair like you do. I love who you can see the individual strands, but it's not too stringy. Her eyes are arresting, the claw-like nails are terrifying...yep. Good job

Haha I actually felt the hair was too stringy looking, but thank you! And I actually really like how you do hair in your gallery and hope to learn how to do hair like that in the future, especially in "What nightmares are made of" and "Into the Spirit World." Beautiful form and shading with a few visible strands, and none of the stringiness! You also draw and shade noses very well- something that isn't that common on dA!

The dissolving effect was actually really easy to do. With my shaky tablet of light and justice, pretty much all I had to do was hold still and all these shaky blots came out. Then I erased half of them and fattened a few dots and done! XD
And I'm glad my tablet is working again too! I love working with my finger, but the lack of pressure sensitivity just makes it hard to do more detailed work and better shading. How has working with your tablet been? Did you end up downloading any program for your laptop?

That would be great! All OCs should be displayed and admired! I think it's a pity that a lot of artists feel compelled to draw fanart rather than original art because fanart always gets more pageviews, faves, and comments. And who wouldn't like that kind of attention? It's really quite motivating! But then because of that, original works and OCs tend to get neglected. And then there's the fan OCs that sort of fall in between, hit or miss. I was reading some journals on how people spend days on this gorgeous OC picture that like one person comments on and has so few views, but then as soon as they post something popular or trendy, bam! Club feature requests and faves left and right!
Haha, that's one way to look at it! But that's about the only thing it's good for! Good thing this piece had close to no lineart, because lineart is really hard to do with this tablet! XD Also that's nice to hear that you're improving on your tablet, and that you can collab one day. That sounds like fun!

Yeah it would be ^^ I think the other one is art thieves who steal someone else's art and claim it as their own. And the stolen stuff becomes popular.

Indeed, it's quite a problem! I suppose that's the reality of the internet though and a risk we have to take if we want to share our art.
Sometimes the best OCs are "Mary Sues." There's a reason why that character type is that popular. Even if no one wants to hear that that's what their character is like, nowadays, no matter what character you have, they're always going to remind someone of some other character that's already out there. Plus Mary Sues are sometimes great starting points. Of course you get those people who refuse to acknowledge that their character is a Mary Sue nor will listen to advice. I think nowadays Mary Sues have evolved to encompass significantly more subtypes, so a lot of characters end up falling into that category. Overused character types and tropes yeah! I think there was an online test somewhere that told you how Mary Sueish your character is. Have you seen it before?

the best OCs are well balanced with powers, and weakness' their story is less predictable that way. XDD It makes me sad that people say hurtful things about OCs when they're perfectly fine. Nowadays a lot of people just say mean things and say to avoid the due-ness you have to make the most boring OC in the world -_- I took the test already for my OCs and they're well balanced and good to go for my story.
To be honest, I've went through several changes on my OC Haravry XD And I'm quite proud of that since she indeed started as a Mary Sue when I first created her a few years ago XD Now she has an awesome backstory, a few powers, and weaknesses to balance her out XD

I don't know, I feel like if everyone is balanced that perfectly, it doesn't leave a lot for variation. Making someone extra strong or extra weak leaves a lot of space for the other characters to develop and create more dynamic relationships. At this point, I've read and seen so much that I've seen more bad publications with non-Mary Sues than good publications with Mary Sues (even if I don't like the main character). There's going to be overused character types everywhere. If it's not the Mary Sue, then it's the angry midget, the quirky prodigy, the emo hot loner guy, the plain boring guy that all the girls in class fall in love with, the otaku, the tsundere, the calculating nerd, the juvenile hacker, the mafia boss, the self-sacrificing hero with a heart of gold, the psycho (extremely popular on dA), the tomboy of kicking butt, the ultra shy girl, the cheerleader, the popular snob, the ONE, the wise elder, the unwilling hero, etc. Every character has something interesting and good about them, even if they are indeed Mary Sues. That said, of course it is good to work on characters and make them balanced and interesting. Our life experiences help make their world more real and their decisions more easy to relate to. It's such a shame that people say mean things about OCs though without actual constructive criticism (the latter can sound pretty mean though, especially to OCs who we love and cherish and want to deny are Mary Sues with all our heart). No matter how good of a writer you are, there is always room for improvement. I read a recent interview about J.K. Rowling who said there's a lot of things she would change now. I have a character who I personally think is every bit a Mary Sue for the sake of parody, but scored really low on that Mary Sue test. Ugh. I suppose what one person considers is a Mary Sue might not be for someone else huh? I am totally going off on a tangent now but uh...yay! Character development! Character types! Go Haravry! Sorry for the block of text! XD

Yeah, the flu shot can't always predict every strain out there, plus you have a lot of families who refuse to get the vaccine as well. Spring is just around the corner though! But it already feels like summer on some days down here. XD

Haha I agree with you to a certain point! If you are healthy and at a low risk plus, you really don't need to take them. Most of my family doesn't, which is totally fine. However, if you're like me and work with patients every day, it's a must. Even if I don't get sick, I could be carrying the virus and end up passing it to my immunocompromised patients, who may end up suffering severe complications. So for healthcare professionals, elderly, and etc groups, I would recommend it. Even if they don't predict the right strain for the vaccine, the risk for complications is generally low and it's better safe than dead/filled with complications. So many people die from the flu each year.
I really like how the insecticutters look, but it's a shame they become so quickly outclassed in terms of power. But fashion over function yeah!! Some of these weapons out there have fabulous attack but goodness they are really ugly. >.> Or sometimes I feel like they don't match, like the urugaan hunting horn has this delightful music box sound, but it looks like I'm carrying a giant booger on a stick. No thanks! XD
Why not take turns picking quests? One rathalos quest for you, some other monster for her, then you get the best of both hopefully! (Or finish neither...ahaha)

Indeed indeed! I guess weapons don't show up on the guild card, but when I have my character visiting other people's town, I don't want him carrying a giant stick booger! So whenever I can, I try to save as often with him carrying a nice weapon (whoo plegia fantasia! Probably one of the worst fully upgraded hammers, but it's simply dashing and romantic!), just in case I happen to streetpass someone. Gotta keep face and looking pretty hehe.

Ugh, Honestly I think I would stick with the better looking weapon any day now as long as it get's the job done I'm good to go XD I have a range of good looking weapons for that. No giant boogers for me

Some pills are pretty nasty too, they're so bitter, and huge! But cough syrup can be disgusting yeah. The taste is still not as bad as some Chinese herbal medicine though, that stuff can be nasty! Bleh! And of course we can look into stuff like chemotherapy, yuck, terrible side effects. But in any case, there's this mentality going on that rather than going for prevention, people just go for the "cure" (if there even is one) and assume that medicine is going to fix them right up, no worries about side effects. Sigh. My understanding is that Canada has a way better healthcare system than the US. Ours is downright poopytastic, and promotes a lot of wrong behavior! XD
