This was a doodle that I liked enough to color. I have a huge pile of doodles that I don't know if I'll ever get around to scanning D:I really want to do more with Older!Scootabloom because I love them to bits, I just feel like anything I do with them would be like the country version of RariDash.
Apple Bloom I desperately want to get a Zap Apple cutie mark [and since it's just a zap flower there's no high res of it]. I like to think she could take Granny Smith's recipe and improve it once now that she's come to understand the Zap Apples. We already got a bit of that implied at the end of the episode by Scootaloo anyway.
Scootaloo, I decided in my head canon she gets her's after performing the Buckineer Blitz [the one move by Rainbow that we don't get to see in her imagination with the Wonderbolts] though not exactly BECAUSE she performed it. I like to imagine it's an actual move and not just one that Rainbow invented, just extremely hard to perform but not unheard of like the Rainboom.
Scootaloo likes to change her story around as to how she got it [for those who weren't there] and at least one version includes receiving it right after saving AB's flank somehow. But this she only tells when asked how they got together, and Apple Bloom denies it happening that way. [add another RariDash parallel that I'm not sure if want?].

I kinda like the idea of "homemaker" Apple Bloom actually which is what I think you're going for. She's the second-most feminine of the CMC (Sweetie Belle is #1) and from a tight knit family. Scootaloo on the other hoof is a total tomboy whose family has never been shown but likely isn't nearly as close as the Apples so being the "dad" in the couple would suit her though I've seen people write a slightly more feminine Scootaloo and it working or having her carry foals because she wants to spare her lover the pain of childbirth.

I know that in a lesbian couple there's no "man or woman", but if I have a pairing like Scootabloom where one is obviously really tomboyish/mascuine, I'll tend to see one as the "father" and one as the "mother." Usually the "father" is the one I can't imagine giving birth, Scootaloo in this case.
Although in the end they adopt. I think.

The whole "there being a 'mother' and a 'father' in a lesbian couple' is very common and I've also seen it for gay couples though the main one for that that pops into my head was a Young Justice fic where Stephanie Brown gave Wally West/Kid Flash a Mother's Day card because she, Jason Todd, Tim Drake and Damian Wayne had decided that Dick Grayson/Robin was their second dad which made Wally, Dick's boyfriend, their mom. Wally was actually pretty touched and it was adorable. I'm starting to think that I probably will denote the "mom" and the "dad" in my homosexual/same gender couples; it's fairly easy for me with MLP: FiM since I just pick the pony I see as more likely to give birth and make them the "mom" and the pony who is less likely to give birth as the "dad". Hey; out of curiosity, who are the "moms" in your Mane 6 pairings and do they always match who gives birth to the foal/foals?

I even do it myself; I like to be the "guy." I like girlie girls and while I don't plan on having kids, I totally plan on being the "husband."
For my Mane 6 the "moms" are Rarity, Pinkie and Fluttershy. Pinkie gives birth to a foal that is biologically her's and Twilight, while Fluttershy and Applejack's baby is biologically Big Mac's. Rainbow I never have giving birth, just Rarity [although their first son is adopted]. I haven't really figured out HOW T/P end up with a biologically baby, and at first I wasn't sure if I wanted to go with a gender swap spell, but the recent Trixie episode kinda proved that such a spell is VERY hard to do, so why not? That would actually make Twilight legitimately the father! Maybe I'll have it get to the point where she CAN turn a mare into a stallion and then all of them can have biological foals. Not sure yet!

Whatever happens I'm sure it'll be great. You're wonderful with characterization. Out of curiosity, what do you think would be the order for the Mane 6 for position of "mom", starting with "most likely to be the 'mom'" and ending with "least likely to be the 'mom"?

Well to me [and I hate to stereotype gender and all that but..] I think that's more of an answer of most feminine to least feminine or so.
So I would go with:
- Rarity. I can see her wanting to be a Mom once she's married more than anything.
- Fluttershy. I have no problem imagining carrying a foal, although I gotta put her below Rarity since I imagine labor hurts no matter what species you are and her being worried about that at first.
- Pinkie Pie / Twilight. Tie here because I pretty much have them on equal footing. They both come off the same for me, although Twilight I have as the "dad" mostly because of how I see their relationship.
- Rainbow Dash. Honestly I can't see Rainbow has a pony that would want to carry a baby because it's so /limiting/ and she's a big mover. Applejack only passes her because AppleDash is the only pairing where I see Rainbow as the "girl" while Applejack is the "boy" [which is how my sister ] portrays them, and I gotta agree with that.
- Applejack. She's such a tomboy! Same reason as Rainbow though, carrying a little filly in the belly would cut into applebucking and unless she's with a male I could see her letting her girl carrying it instead.

I actually generally have Applejack as the carrier when she's with another mare especially Dash. My reasoning is that Dash would be traveling with her job while Applejack would be at home. And I almost never have Rarity carry if she's with another mare; that's more about how fashion fascinated she is. But I see where you're coming from and you're not stereotyping gender here; you're just making a statement about what kind of female you see each of the Mane Cast as. And Arcticwaters is your sister? I LOVE her art!

It is, it's a great tool for digital painting, and while my skills are not anywhere near good enough for that, I can at least love the fact that its pencil tool provides the best lineart of any program xD

Haha true, if I shipped AppleDash I guess I would have made the comparison as well xD I think AB in my headcanon is turning out a bit like Rarity though; or like... if Rarity wasn't afraid of dirt? I'm probably looking too much in to the whole design thing we were given for AB in the show x3
You should watch the episode if you haven't yet! It didn't seem like it would be much but I'm glad they gave Granny Smith a chance to be likeable instead of just a weird character.
lol I can't help agreeing with most people in thinking Scoot is going to grow up to be cocky like Rainbow, especially since I went ahead and gave her a similar cutie mark story xD;
