how long did it take to render? what specs are you working with?

I have an athlon x4 9950 (oc @ 3ghz) it's getting pretty old these days so it took a fair while. There isn't much in the scene really apart from the small amount of ground and the plant/object thing. Maybe 3-8 hours I can't remember exactly

I disagree! Let's not argue about it, I am right. It's weird having 3 different conversations... I think my caffeine+sleep deprived brain is going to implode.

I will get around to answering them soon, I promise! My mum keeps hassling me to finish yardwork/garden so I have to do that before she has a spaz

Finally! Something that feels like art!
(I've been going through my thousands of messages, hoping to find someone that uses 3D for actual art. Thank you, this is a pleasant find).

indigo I guess, mostly because I use it more, I only really used fryrender when it first came out for a couple of weeks

I love this photo - I almost thought it was an origami sculpture at first in the form of a desert flower. Obviously just the magnificence of nature tho ^_^
well taken!

sentimentalfreak In reply to Stargirl9 [2011-04-16 09:29:54 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, you know what? The best compliment you gave was thinking it was a photo at all

It's all 3D CG, apart from the sky, which is being used for lighting still

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Stargirl9 In reply to sentimentalfreak [2011-04-16 20:55:00 +0000 UTC]

Oh! Lol - well, I thought it was beautiful! You're very welcome. I've never used 3D CG before, is it difficult? What program do you use? I wanna try ...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sentimentalfreak In reply to Stargirl9 [2011-04-20 03:47:42 +0000 UTC]

It's like anything really, it just takes time and practice, drawing, music etc

Hmm depends what kind of 3D you want to do, abstract stuff, tech stuff, make your own models, pose someone elses models, animation, effects, architectural visualization, product vis, environments

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Stargirl9 In reply to sentimentalfreak [2011-04-20 05:02:18 +0000 UTC]

Eh ... Hmm... I like to draw realistic fantasy. I know that sounds like an oxymoron >_<
But, think M.C. Escher. Thats my favorite style of drawing. I haven't uploaded any sketches of mine, but thats how I draw so I would like to do that kind of 3D graphic art. What kind of program will I need? Ah, I'm sorry I ask so many questions!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sentimentalfreak In reply to Stargirl9 [2011-04-29 09:23:11 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm realistic fantasy, the easiest way to start would probably be something like Poser - it comes with premade models and stuff thta you can pose and put different backgrounds and clothing on.

VUE makes pretty much just environments, forests, sunsets, some fantasy stuff.

If you want to make your own models and environments from scratch you could try Maya, 3DS Max, Blender, Zbrush..

You can get them all on thepiratebay.org etc... Blender is free.

You can google-images each one to see what they do and what the interface looks like. Once you start doing stuff you might find there is something more specific you want to do, sometimes there are specific programs for stuff. ie. fluid simulation.

sentimentalfreak In reply to lyc [2011-03-31 00:58:35 +0000 UTC]

It's taking a while to upload, the hdri takes up most of the space

It will be desert815x1450.pigs when it gets done, still says an hour left, dropbox upload isn't super fast

Could always put the low res hdri in there but meh, might as well leave it go now.
