Description
Somethings are needless to say,We dive into the darkness
When everything fades to gray...
Such an inspiring song it is, Sonata Actica's "Everything Fades To Gray" I mean.
I like how this turned out. It was nice to paint something not so colourful for a change. And of course it had to be a dragon; I love drawing membrane wings.
What's more, I finally managed to create some nice salt textures! I think the whole darkness/cloud/smoke thing looks very nice altogether.
I hope you like it!
Edit; I figured I could get rid of some theme challenges with this picture.

My, thank you so much for a lovely critique! I'm so glad to hear you like it.
The thoughts about the dragon symbolizing power that may relate to humans crossed my mind as well. Yet you put it in better words than I could've done.
Thank you!

Wow, great fall piece. You really caught the metaphorical feel of this picture with the thick, black smoke at the bottom the dragon is plummeting to, ever further distanced from the clear skies above. I also like the dark lines streaming from the dragon, as if its already darkened spirit is descending even faster than its body can fall. And with the blood gushing from the fatal wound popping out as the brightest part of the picture, one kind of gets the sense that all that had passion and livelihood in the dragon is being drained from it. Also, bleeding in midair looks kind of cool in general.
Quite a sorrowful piece. That poor mythical beast is being poached no doubt.

Thank you very much! You really have a way with words in these comments. It's really neat to hear the different kind of thoughts my pieces awaken in you.
And yeah, bleeding midair is pretty neat. Maybe I'll try to do that again sometime in the future.

This is quite beautiful. I like the designs on the dragon's wings and tail, and the "darkness/cloud/smoke thing" looks nice as well.

Lovely artwork, I really like you handle watercolors. Though I have one thing to point out, I know it can't be fixed at this stage but would help in future works.
The "action lines" beneath the dragon has been disturbing me the more I look into it. I'm guessing they might not be action lines and shadows casted beneath him, because of the strong light washing above. If this is the case then it's a shame, the contrast of light and dark isn't that obvious since he's dark in color himself. My apologies in advance
If it's the action lines indeed to emphasis the motion of "falling", then they're all wrong. Because it doesn't seem like the dragon is falling, more lke flying above while the blood drops hint he's falling. I'm not sure what could be done instead of those lines to emphasis falling into darkness from light, maybe it would be fine as the way it is without the lines. Or I'm being really silly here.
I apologise again, I don't mean to offend. Maybe I'm looking at it more with a comic perspective than artistic-wise. I just thought it was a bit confusing. Though aside from this, a great piece I loved to death.

I'm so, so late with my reply and I feel horrible for not getting back at you earlier. Even though it's been several montsh now I can't just delete this locely comment you wrote, it's just too good! I really appreciate you too your time to wrote all that and even found something to critique!
You're right with the shadows (yes, they're meant to be shadows, I wanted to capture a feeling of slow, almost stopped motion, falling), they do make the contrats between light and dark seem less obvious, especially in the part where the shadows connect with the clouds. I'll pay more attention to such things in my future works. :>
Thank you again! Your comment was quite helpful, definitely not offending.

Oh no worries ^^ Thank you for replying to my comment and taking it into consideration.
Now I look at it again, I think some "ray of light" can be the solution. Light can break through upper clouds at places, maybe cast some light on the few areas on dark clouds below? Which'll emphasis more the difference in layers of light and dark and make difference more obvious? Hope that makes sense
Glad to be of some help if I could, keep up the good work as usual ^^
