Description
Somethings are needless to say,We dive into the darkness
When everything fades to gray...
Such an inspiring song it is, Sonata Actica's "Everything Fades To Gray" I mean.
I like how this turned out. It was nice to paint something not so colourful for a change. And of course it had to be a dragon; I love drawing membrane wings.
What's more, I finally managed to create some nice salt textures! I think the whole darkness/cloud/smoke thing looks very nice altogether.
I hope you like it!
Edit; I figured I could get rid of some theme challenges with this picture.
100 Themes Challenge 88. Pain
100 Techniques Challenge 25. Draw something that is supposed to arouse negative emotion from the viewer (sadness, nausea, anger). you can use both technique and subject of the drawing to achieve this.
Medium Watercolours

Hnnnnnngh tykkään ihan simona noista taustan tekstuureista ja niiden asettelusta! Tommonen ihana rosoisen voimakas massa ja just sopivasti vaaleampaa tasapainottamassa sitä. Lohikärmeksen asento on ihanan sulava ja noi siivet heittää oikein herkullisia varjoja - onnistunut valon siivilöitymisefekti on aina muikeaa katsottavaa. *w*

Stunning! Very beautiful. And it took you three hours? Lol, this would have taken me three DAYS and it wouldn't have turned out as nice as yours! XP I love this painting!

Well, I could say that well planned is half done - I had a clear image of this picture in my head to all had to do was to paint it. I can work quite fast with watercolours, especially is there's little distraction.
Anyway, thank you!

This painting is just perfect. The colors you choose just made the feeling of sadness grow. The position of the dragon, the lyris you choose... It's just makes me fell like I'm into the scene, with this poor dragon. Just amazing!

Wow. The use of watercolors and your color scheme really brings out the overall feel of death.
The piece also has a sense of weightlessness and gentleness that compliments death in a really neat and emotional way.
Awesome work and great creativity ^^.

Lovely placement of the blood, the red. peacock-like feathers are a wonderful detail you added, two thumbs WAY up on that! I also like the edging on the wings, although the wings may seem just a bit small (probably just me...)
Great work!

Thank you so much!
I think that anatomically those wings would be big enough to support the dragon (if it would ever fly again). You may be right.

It's very sad but I think the inevitable happened despite the dragon's struggling.

This piece reminds me of Haldir's death scene in The Two Towers-it is a death scene that one does not normally see in a fantasy setting. Elves are usually only slain in legend and we do not see it, or there are many slain but they are not main characters nor are any of their deaths shown in a personal light. Dragons usually are portrayed as villains and therefore their deaths, while awe inspiring, are just like watching fireworks (so long as you're at the correct distance.) This piece really evokes that personal feeling of finally ending the struggle to live and accepting death as inevitable. I also get the feeling that it is only a still in a longer story. We don't get to see what happens to the dragon after it dies, or what happened before it, all we are seeing is an extremely private moment-a peep into something that will remain a mystery and thereby add to the sadness of the picture.
Now that I've commented everyone's ear off... well done!

Wow. I'm speechless. Seriously, if I could fave comments I'd fave this one right away. Your comment is so thoughtful and it perfectly explains a deeper meaning of the picture. Even I couldn't have put it together that well!
Thank you so much for your amazing comment!

I believe that's why we share our work with others so much, to reveal deeper meanings of our art and ourselves we would never have found on our own.
You're quite welcome.

this is absolutely gorgeous!! There is definitely a lot of emotion here, and I love the abstract nature of the background and the design and markings on the dragon! Beautifully tragic

poor dragon. who killed it? or was it struck by lightning? that'd be interesting. I've never heard of a dragon geting struck by lighting.

Hmm, I haven't thought about it. Whoever or whatever (propably not lightning, though!) it was, it knew the dragon's weak spot and struck right into it's heart. Perhaps it was the evil nature of one being.

Wow! There we go, getting inspired by music again! And it pays off, greatly! I absolutely love this! The critique sums most of it up. The colors, texture...it all just clicks for me.
I've made a resolution to listen to that song.
Thanks, Shinon. This picture's made my day.
