Somethings are needless to say,We dive into the darkness
When everything fades to gray...
Such an inspiring song it is, Sonata Actica's "Everything Fades To Gray" I mean.
I was struck by inspiration as if it was a lightning that struck me. I just had to paint this one. It's not vent art or anything, just something that suddenly popped in my mind. The original title and idea was simply "Falling" but I thought it was boring so I coloured it up a little with the help of previously mentioned song. I fixed the title a bit, I think 'fall' was better than 'dive' since the dragon is obviously falling and has almost given up struggling to get back up.I like how this turned out. It was nice to paint something not so colourful for a change. And of course it had to be a dragon; I love drawing membrane wings.
What's more, I finally managed to create some nice salt textures! I think the whole darkness/cloud/smoke thing looks very nice altogether.

The way you use ink is incredible... this piece is so emotive, especially with the salt texture. I love the bare hints of color. The title fits it well.

Sonata is surprisingly well-known. Heck, they're so awesome it would be a shame if they weren't! I'd say they're especially well known here in Finland for this is their home country.

Even if they started as hard rock band and turned into more gayish power metal Stratovarius ripoff... they are sure quite good. I like some of their songs. Lol. I have even t-shirt with their logo. And I keep that in secret because my death metal friends are laughting at me xD
I found interesting that most the good metal -not death and black- bands are from Finland. At least that was the state few years ago... And usually when someone is speaking of finnish metal I have all good bands in memory.
Btw, I haven't said that, the dragon has nice painted wings.

Yeah, you may be right. I know there are people who just laugh at Sonata and tell how ridiculous they are. I don't mind, I like SA anyway. :>
Finland indeed has its share of good metals bands. Many of my favourites (and I have MANY favourites) come from Finland, surprise surprise.

I could say that using salt effectively needs a lot of practise. I needed to try it countless of times before I found the right way to use it. The salt will dissolve if the paint is too wet but on the contrary if the paint is too dry the salt won't do anything. Practising is the only way to find the right way. :3

sooo evil and you are so very very right! It's just kinda funny how tutorials and books and things tell you how to do the salt technique but don't say " there's a very small window where you can get this right... and it takes LOTS of practice!"
