Description
The R-3K3 Astromech Droid, designed after the R2-series astromech was produced as a cleaning and maintenance for concession machines, developed, build and sold by the droidmaker known as Industrial Automaton (IA) a subsidiary of the Corporate Alliance and therefore connected to the Corporate Sector (CS) and the Corporate Sector Authority (CSA) alike. The therefore served alongside Battle Droids, Koorivar Fusiliers, Vibroblade Brgades and others on Corporate Alliance ships, like Dreadnaught-class heavy cruisers, Marauder-class corvettes, Fantaol-class destroyers, Recusant-class light destroyers and Lucrehulk-class battleships, as well as other local Separatist Ships and Naval Forces, especially among the Corporate Sector Authority inside the Corporate Sector. Because the Galactic Republic, including the Galactic Navy relied so heavily on these droids, the Separatist Alliance, the Confederacy of Independent Systems on suggestion of the Confederate General Grievous began employing these droids as secret agents inside the middle of their enemies. Some of them were simply captured Republic Droids that were reprogrammed, others were build for this purpose alone, leading to long-term Separatist Droid Assassins, Infiltrators, Spies and Saboteurs to be out into their places of operations sometimes as early as the Separatist Crisis, a very few even before, others later during the Clone Wars themselves. Out of these droids, some were discovered, destroyed, or used to feed the enemy false intelligence, others simply were never used and overall would continue their original missions and programming, or reprogramming without ever being found out. Not inside the Republic, not inside the Empire, or any other galactic state and power they served under. The most famous of such droids was most likely R3-S6, who would manage to infiltrate no only the Galactic Republic, but the Jedi Order itself, serving alongside Anakin Skywalker and Ashoka Tano under the nickname Goldie as the replacement for his recently lost astromech R2-D2. Most of these Separatist R3 spy, sabotage and assassin droids however never got as famous, or were ever found out. Many of these droids simply used their work aboard Republic/ Imperial Starships to spy on hyperlane and hyperspace routes and movements, troop and equipment numbers to give them over to the Separatist Alliance.
Others outright sabotaged the Republic/ Imperial Ships they were stationed aboard, either to force them to repair and be unavailable for active duty, to assassinate officers, captains, commanders, Generals and Admirals trough a series of “accidents” they would cause, or prepare a series of events with multiple of these computer, technology and other problems, that they outright lead to major malfunctions that either endangered the stability and survival of the ship’s crew with life support, or overall integrity and survival of the ship itself, both inside of battles, as well as outside of them. Some of the longest serving droids like these even managed to capture special Republic personal, or whole ship crews, by turning the internal security, emergency escapes and other systems of their ships against them, or deactivate enough of their ships until incoming Separatist Alliance Forces could regularly board and completely take over these ships for good. Such incidents naturally were why more and more Clone Troopers and other organic forces of the Republic/ Empire began to mistrust any kind of droid more and more throughout the Clone Wars, especially in it’s most brutal phase, the Outer Rim Sieges and the Reconquest of the Rim, which was why afterwards on many worlds who had suffered the most throughout the Rim, droids were later viewed quit negatively, overall disliked and mistrusted. While this was partly also true for even the Core Worlds and Colonies after the Battles of Operation Durges lance, which had brought Separatist Forces deep into the heart of the Galactic Republic, the main difference was that the massive megalopolis, world-cities and industries of the worlds there simply could not be run, maintained and produce without a massive droid workforce and automation, which was why new securities were installed and new droid models with new programming would replace many older models were governments, militarist, companies, conglomerates and private individuals could effort doing so, leaving many of the older outdated models to only be seen and serving in the Rim in larger numbers, there however often for the next decades, or even centuries, long above their regular operation dates, because repairing them was still less costly then buying new ones, even if they had to be repaired and patched up with parts of other droids.
