Description
First off, let me say, I did not use any pose references to make this, so considering that, I'm pretty proud of it! X3I love Cutey Honey, the first 'ai no senshi' (she said it back in 1973!) sophisticated magical girl ever (I say sophisticated rather than something a little more descriptive of her appearance in an attempt to be modest, of course.) I was severely tempted to draw the original Cutey Honey (not much difference except the shape and color of gloves, boots and sword) but I felt that the Honey from Cutey Honey Flash was more universally appropriate since it was more like Sailor Moon. But I really like the original Cutey Honey (I'm a sucker for vintage anime!) BUT IF YOU THINK I WAS GONNA MAKE HER KEYHOLE THAT ACCURATE TO THE ORIGINAL, YOU'RE CRAZY!!!!
Thanks to for her advice on the background! I hope I was able to improve the image! O_O I decided to try something a little more technological than a spraypaint look, so I went with a neon look. X3
Cutey Honey (c) Go Nagai. Artwork equals Sy! XD
*Yes, I changed all the Cuties to Cuteys. I knew how it was spelled to begin with; it's just that I can't STAND MISSPELLED WORDS! XD

I remember buying the print for this at Jampcon after the seller said I looked like I was cosplaying the character. Such awesome work

Thank you so much! Just out of curiosity, were you at Con Nooga at all? I thought I saw someone who reminded me of you, so I wasn't sure. X3

I knew it! X3 Actually, I wasn't there as an artist, but as a panel host. I usually do panels at Con Nooga. But I will definitely be at Anime Blast Chattanooga in November and I'll of course be at Anime Weekend Atlanta in September if you're heading to either one of those! =3

he he. I'm going to both actually. I'm so excited because I haven't been to atlanta in years and when I found out that Anime Blast Chattanooga was replacing JAMPcon I automatically ordered my ticket.

Very nice work! Don't know the anime, but I love the way you did the character, her outfit, hair, and sword! Very great work on the pose, too~!

Thanks bunches! It's one of those classics that keeps being brought back in the form of an anime, movie, or live action series. XD This version in particular came out right when the Sailor Moon series ended and was geared more toward young girls when the whole magical girl thing went full blast.

"Who is that girl with a teeny weeny butt?
A lovely pink haired vixen with the purest of hearts!
Please look this way Cutey Honey
Because....just...BECAUSE!!
No, no, no, no, please don't look at us like that, honey flash!
She is that one girl with the bouncy boobs
A popular girl in her highschool
She makes my nose go "Tinkle Tinkle Tinkle Tinkle!"
No, no, no, no
Why are you looking at me like that?! HONEY FLASH! "
lol at least i think that's how the lyrics go. Nice art! I love cutey honey!

The live action one cracked me up. XD But I'm a huge Cutey Honey Flash fan, back in the Sailor Moon days! I just wish they'd brought it along with the original over. I don't like the New Cutey Honey series. She looks so butch! She's not cute at all!

LMAO the cartoon was what cracked me up, the live action had some comedy in it too but it leaned more on the serious side while the cartoon was just a bunch of random ecchi/hentai humor. lmao
"BUTT BASHING!"
the news reportor said that in the original cartoon....ftw.... HENTAI!
LMAO
on the live action movie there was more "Awww, that's so sad/cute" than humor.... o.O i also noticed a lot of changes were added.
Like the natsuaki girl...nani/natty they called her. in the cartoon she was all about the guns + bullets and she was rough/tough and all about getting things done.
In the live action movie that part of her toned down a lot and they showed us how depressed and lonely she was.
so yah there were a lot of simularities and connections to the cartoon while the live action changed a few things and it made things more "realistic".
I dunno maybe that's just me.. *shrugs* T__T

i think the figure/shading is well done. critique-wise though, the background is too loud and not on the same level of quality. This would be stronger with a different background or maybe a transparent background (even though dA shows transparent bgs as black.. its been years and they still haven't fixed that)
on a side note, i've always thought the cutey honey flash dolls were really cute - almost bought one once on ebay.

I know, right? I almost got one once too.
While I did want a loud background, I can see what you mean. (I will even concede that I actually got lazy on the lettering, otherwise it would have been flat and looked much nicer, kinda like graffiti!) I would like something that does look retro, though, if it can compliment the subject; any thoughts or ideas? '.'

hmm off hand I can't really think of what to suggest.. maybe just look around for a typeface that has a 70s flavor. You could then edit the typeface in PS to look more like it was spraypainted. There are a ton of free fonts out there (only a handful are worth actually using though XD) 1001fonts has some that often work. You have a PC too right, that will make it easier for you to find a font that will work well with it.

Thanks for the ideas! I'll try them this week and see if I can find something a little more complimentary to the subject. =3
