Description 1955 Mercedes Benz Engine Compartment WIP

So, more progress, I'm happy with it so far.

The majority of the compartment is done. Yay!
The other parts of the compartment are relative to the body and frame of the car.

Doing some research on this car I've found some good reference images of the frame, so creating it will be easier... on another note it reminds me of the frame of an old VW Beetle in that it's flat, with ribs, and a tunnel....

I know. Of two! I have no children of my own. Can't really count my wife.

By the way, a friend of mine makes avatars that you can use. *FantasyStockAvatars She's really nice, and might even make you one special, if you can't find anything, and ask nicely. I used them for the longest time. Until I got some as gifts.

Post a comment on the one you select, assuming... She's sweet, and it really makes a stocker feel nice to know when you like something of theirs enough to use it. Especially avatars.

no, i am not going to use it until she confirms. i don't think it's polite to use it without her confirmation.
but, if she does say yes, i will have it up as soon as i get her message.

i want eh this one : [link]

what do you think? she didn't have a blue one with black small one so i just decided that this one was close enough to it :3 and it's just gorgeous in general. ^.^

I like it! I used the single black heart for a while myself! She's serious when her comments say that you can use them freely here on DA.
If you insist, I'd suggest asking her on *FantasyStock She'll likely get it much faster there.

I like it so much! You MUST have seen the single one. That's been "mine" for a long time. On another page.

Tell your dad that there's no rush at all. There are enough avatars in the resources gallery, that you could try a new one every day, and not run out for years!

ok what does all of this mean-god you talk just like my dad sometimes:
'' wrote about my betraying hand, that just won't express the images that I give it, to simply reproduce. ''
but i read the poem.
i write poetry, but i don't understand the poem either.
and how does that have anything to do with the problem exactly?

My mind sees such exquisite images. Full of meaning, impact, emotion, etc. But my hands won't set them free. between my mind and the image, it dies somewhere. So what comes out is plain, dull, lifeless. And they just aren't right. They somehow fail to be expressed. That's every artists problem, and challenge... To get the exquisite images from your head, to the canvas, to use an old term, screen today. That's why I practice. I never think any of my works are any good. Since I know what they SHOULD look like.

THANK YOU!!!!
you see my dad just doesn't get that.
but FINALLY some one does. I AM NOT ALONE!!!! woohoo!
*clears throught* back to the subject at hand
but yes, my dad always says my pictures are fine, but he just doesn't get that fact that i don't like them because they don't look how they should.

Think about all the times you see artist's comments that sound like apologies. Every single one of those are works that the artist felt like their image was less than the idea. Yes, they may look good, fine, even great. But they fail to live up to the idea. I must continue practicing to bring my images to life. To give them that spark that truly expresses what I see. Nobody said it was easy. But I believe it's worth the work.

yes i know about the artist opinion, most of of the time i don't agree but my opinion on there work doesn't matter if they don't agree in there opinion. i have been practicing but nothing happens. nothing has happened i should say. i still suck. nothings coming out any better than it did in fourth grade than it is know. sure i draw all the time but i wouldn't call it practicing if nothing is getting better because of it.

Perhaps you need to follow a course of study. Or maybe a different medium. Have you tried any photomanipulation? Maybe animation is more suiting. Photography might be your field. Try them all... The least that will happen, is that you'll gain new respect for a different art form.

i've tried lots....this being the best sadly
a monkey could do photography and call it art
thats like the easiest thing of them all-
so why would i do it?

markopolio-stock In reply to BlueSnowGiesha [2007-10-28 00:10:00 +0000 UTC]

Photography is NOT easy. All excellence is equally difficult to attain. Anyone could call any piece art. There's more to any artistry than just the image. The transfer of the emotional content from one person to another is the real goal. Let me show you a few pieces that seem simple, but make a strong impact. [link] [link] [link] [link] [link]
The two sketch artists started off doing work that was equal to yours. I remember their first attempts. The photographer does work that I find impossible to do.

ok. photography has always been easy to me, though it may just be because i was taught to do it right (by my dad) and it just comes easy to me. you think that they do things so great because they have the knack of being able to know which angle to shoot it at, where to shoot it at, and who to shoot it at in the first place. that first link wasn't the best thing i've ever seen but if you like abstract....the second was good, the photographs were like any other, nice angle, nice scene, nice photograph. the last link i did not like either but if you like abstract....im not saying that they don't have talent, that's clear that they do, but my opinion on the style is not a very good one therefore i did not care much the piece of art that was shown.

Kelly started at about your level of expertise. The first couple. She makes a living on selling her prints now. I've even bought one. $150. I encouraged her when she started, and she took everything I said, and ran with it. A bit of shading, practice hands, etc. Everyone's style is different. The last work, the kind of anime, death scene... she had been working on drawing for a year Then she decided to try watercolors, and it worked for her. I can't draw a bit. But many people think I do really good 3D scenes. One of my fractals got a Daily Deviation. So, You never can tell what might be the right medium for you. If it's sketching, study what makes other sketches more impressive to you than yours. Try their style, the worst that can happen is that you'll learn a technique that comes in handy sometimes.

ok, i told you that i didn't think she bad, jeez. she is good. my 'level' of 'expertise' is very very low i know, im 11 for goodness. you bought it for that much? are insane man? have you lost your freakin' mind!?!!! ok i'm taking your advice believe it or not. trust me, if i am taking the time to read your advise i am using it. i am never going to be able to draw hands worth a lick on the forehead. (lolz) it took her a year to do that?!!!! really....wow. your 3-d scenes are like extatic job my friend, extatic. you draw? no, the worse that can happen is that it will SUCK! ehehe....i've tried that. and it didn't go very well. not very well at all. chibi is all im good for. (but i'm starting to do pixel art, im getting bases and looking at tutorials cuz' i wanna give it a shot. if it comes out ok i'll post it.)

Yes, I bought one of Kelly's works for that much. I'd show you which one, but she seems to have removed it now. It was of an old soldier, sitting in the VFW, having another drink. Very expressive.

Here's an idea. Take one of your chibi's, and try a little shadow work on it. Use lines that run with the shadow, and where it's dark, use a crosshatch.

ok i see how that could possibly be worth that fortune. gosh, if you bought one of my works i would feel as famous as you are. lolz.

ok. but i've been shadowing for a long time now so thats no biggy, but what is a crosshatch?

It's a way to double up on the shading lines. For a darker shading.

BlueSnowGiesha In reply to markopolio-stock [2007-10-30 11:56:31 +0000 UTC]

oh that. so thats what thats called....interesting. i did not read but i looked at the technique, and figure 8. XD uh, my shading looks better the way i do it, because that type of shading won't look right with y sketch lines and/or the picture itself

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

markopolio-stock In reply to BlueSnowGiesha [2007-11-01 11:05:01 +0000 UTC]

Okay, but still, the technique is valid. To pick a light source, and give your drawing lighter, and darker shading for shadows is the idea.
