Description I have a commission involving Silver, and I have been practicing drawing him A LOT. Since his quills are white, and I've started using a more 3D style in my art, I really needed to figure out some kind of colouring "formula" to make the whites show up. I've figured what works is what I used in this drawing: yellow, pale rose, sky blue, slate, and beige. Oh, and for the skin, I used cream, yellow, beige, and coral.

I know the picture is small, but for some reason my crappy camera picked up the details better than my scanner. Seriously, scanner, seriously.... Β

Without the graininess from the camera I might've thought this was a painting. Β Great colours!

That's really pure artistic talent and industrious work in your hand!!Β
He looks somewhat like a character in a timeless novel from the coloration and his expression is similar to Da Vinci. (I know that sounds strange xD)Β

Thank you so much!! Really?? His expression looks like Da Vinci?

(I'm sorry I've been taking so long on your commission... I've been going through a lot lately and I've been pretty busy as well, so I'm only half-way done.)

It reminds me from a book I read when I was a child ^^
That is perfectly fine Having known the fact that you're a busy person with much going on in your life with schooling and family, please, take your time. I say or write this is the utmost level of calmness and understanding. I appreciate your diligence and kindness for your clients/friends. Take care Β Β

Thank you so much! Here's a tip for the white: most of the colours should be on the outer edges, especially the corners, and the very middle should be left blank (just look at the quills, for example, so you know what I'm talking about). Also on the very edge, I'd use the darkest colours (use whatever you have (I'm suggesting alternate colours just in case you don't have some): slate or navy, beige or brown, and pale rose or mauve or purple. I actually did a light outline using slate (the colour, not the rock ), but only because there's no background. Then, closer to the center, you use the lighter colours: light blue or light green, any shade of yellow (except for the really strong and dark ones!) and a tiny bit of beige. Oh, and if you have trouble blending (which I doubt, because your art is awesome ) crosshatching helps a LOT. That way it creates a 3D effect Hope this helps

You're totally welcome! Feel free to come to me if you have any questions about traditional art, I'm always willing to help I'm excited to see what you could do with it! And as for the coloured pencils... well, yup, they're not cheap I've been collecting mine for over a decade, so that's why I have so many (but they're not fancy ones, just Crayola and things like that) I wish you the best of luck!
