Description This was a piece I did in addition to "Escape This Skin " as part of a school project to produce editorial style art that would help in the education of the general population on transgender issues. The particular focus of this piece was the growing rejection of nonbinary people from the community- there is a constant flow of love and acceptance, at least from the majority of queer people ( and no, I have no intention on using LGBT, take a queer history or queer studies course and then we'll talk ) for binary trans men, and binary trans women, but nonbinary people are constantly excluded from nearly all of the safe spaces created- spaces exist for cis women, trans women, women in general, trans men, gay men, lesbian women, bisexual men and women- but nonbinary people are not permitted to feel safe in any of those spaces, because they do not fit under any of those labels.

It is distinctly lonely and alienating, and particularly in the modern climate of near vicious protectiveness over such spaces, and the violent response to anyone deemed "not suited" for them, nonbinary people often talk themselves out of attending what could be very beautiful and wholesome experiences for everyone involved ( I know I've done it ). There is this idea that if you attend something for women, you are pretending to be a woman, and if you attend something for men, you are pretending to be a man, and by doing either you are shaming the entire trans community- nevermind the idea that if you are nonbinary you are not "trans enough" ( and yes, I realize that gender non-conforming trans people also suffer this stigma, but nonbinary people are getting the limelight in this piece ).

Nonbinary is a massive umbrella encompassing a number of identities- some more easily defined than others- and we make up a huge percentage of the queer community, yet we are the ones who are distinctly ignored and rejected.

Like "Escape This Skin" I would like to make prints of these, and donate proceeds to organizations that help all trans people, however there will be some time between now and when I can make that happen.

This piece, beyond being an emotional outpouring for class, is my way of asking the queer community one question.

What about me?

[EDIT]: Hateful or super unrelated comments will be hidden. Those posting hate will be blocked, and if I am not fast enough in hiding comments I encourage others NOT to engage, and simply to also block the offending party. I understand that this is a pretty hot topic issue for some people, and that it does in some ways tie in to other issues, but I would prefer if comments were kept relevant to either my art, or nonbinary representation/acceptance! Thank you all for understanding!

Hi, I appreciate your enthusiasm for these topics, but I would appreciate if these discussions didn't happen on my piece! It was my fault for not putting that request in the description ( which I am adding now ), but I would prefer if the discussions that this sparks remain relevant to nonbinary representation and acceptance!

You do make some valid points that some places take the important concept of safe spaces and misuse them, but that is not the point of this post. Thank you for understanding!

No worries! We all get carried away when we're passionate!
