hello,

I just wanted to ask,
why do u say 'not the painting acrylic one though' for the gesso.
(i ask this because my mom has started doin calligraphy as a hobby.. and she follows this home course thing.. and she's at illuminating letters. It doesn't specify what gesso to use, and im afraid she is using the acrylic painting stuff..(and its not always working out as she wants it to))

thanks in advance, and apologies for (maybe some) bad english (dutch is my normal language)

Hi there, no problem
Traditional gesso could work but you will have to add a layer of some sort of glue on top.
So, if you want to make raised gilding, I really think the illuminating gesso would be the best. You have quite a few from Cornelissen improved gold body to Miniatum etc..

hi again. i'm sorry to keep pestering you, but what kind of brush are you using here?

thanks, and thanks also for this tutorial, it's really helpful!

short brushes, the ones for miniature painting or figurine, good quality marten, kolinsky or other Thing is, you need to look for a good "tip" and a thick brush to hold enough paint. Don't choose the smallest shortest but the best quality No pb about pestering me

Good tip about dripping the gesso. That's what messed me up when I tried. Plus, I was trying to do thin lines with it. Where do you get the shell gold?
