Description I saw this in the Group Description of #Depression-victims and asked if I could make it into a Stamp, and was given permission to do so.
For

GIMP 2.6.11

Edit:
If you have something to say, please limit it to critique on the stamp itself, not the message behind it. I have no associating with the Group, I simply thought it was a nice statement and converted it into a stamp.

yes ofc, I have had no interaction or experience with children which have suffered from abuse. Or at least none who hasnt seeked help.

And on the question if i have told my family members how they should cope, i must answer no. I havnt told them what to. I did what most kids do when their parents get depressed, I tried to be there for them. Support them in the ways that i could.

But to my friends who hasnt been abused or damaged but with none the less real problems, i told them to see someone. Offered to help. But ive also seen way too many people who get soo caught up in their own supposed misery to not care about anything else. People who shut the door to the real world and live in their own reality...

All i think is that if you have a problem, you should try to solve it. And if those problems in the end cause you to become depressed... well if you have the tools to a happier future? Why not use them? Why suffer when there are things that can help?

You know what, I'm depressed, and you can have my official stamp of approval for your attitude. You sound like you have a good grasp of what depression is and your opinions aren't outlandish or as outrageous as these people make them out to be.

Carry on, lady!

I hope you know that antidepressants and the medication they use for depression generally damage your liver (moreso than normal medications) and, sometimes, they cause you to develop an even worse case of depression.

I'd rather live with depression than destroy my liver or risk another suicide in the name of modern medicine.

Yatai In reply to LelOrian [2011-02-23 13:31:51 +0000 UTC]

wat. Then i hope you are strong enough to conquer the conditions in a medical-free way? Good for you. Really. You dont have to convince Me.

But for some its impossible without.

and what exactly do you mean by "normal medications"? Most serious medications have nasty after-effects.

LelOrian In reply to Yatai [2011-02-23 15:14:22 +0000 UTC]

I get the feeling we butt heads too much on the topic of medicine for me to say how I really feel about it and not have you (or others) flip out at me to some extent.

Because, if you can't live without antidepressants or medications that slowly kill you, if altering your diet or exercizing more or changing your lifestyle doesn't help at all, if you were born that way or something, that's not a very healthy existence now, is it? What's it worth if you can't live without shoving chemicals down your throat every day?

And what I meant by "normal medications" was things like over the counter drugs, I suppose. All medications affect you negatively in some way...

It's fine you've never felt so far out you needed medication, just don't judge those who do. I have a friend who's full-blown psychotic without her medicine -- she hears voices, gets paranoia, hallucinates. If she can have a close to normal life with her medication, good riddance, let her pop as many pills as she can possibly swallow - the life living with her condition is hell.

And mind you, one can feel that way with depression as well. If you truly feel so miserable you're at danger of hurting yourself or worse, or if you can only muster crying for 6 hours straight before going back to bed, I think medication is a decent path to take.

While I see what message you're trying to convey in the stamp, I don't think it's worded very well.
All right... stamp critique. Nice color palette, and font selection. Maybe the animation could go a bit faster?

Strong for too long? I don't really get it...honsetly but I know it's understandable that depression is'nt an automatic sign that your a loser or something.

Kind of like, someone has been struggling for a long time and now they're kinda exhausted, and therefore depressed...? I think that's it.

Mad-Plot-Bunny In reply to ruby-skylar [2011-02-23 07:44:41 +0000 UTC]

Oh. Being strong and positive can be tiring for most people. I mean nobody can be 'happy' 24-7, it's not normal. That makes sense.

Depression is often caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. So if someone has a problem that they can't control, that makes them weak?

You speak as if it's certain that the chemical imbalance causes depression and never the other way around. If you buy into what you're saying, then just give up if you get depressed!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

oOMunchyOo In reply to ruby-skylar [2011-02-23 09:47:56 +0000 UTC]

I never ended the argument, and if you think it's unrelated then you didn't get it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ruby-skylar In reply to oOMunchyOo [2011-02-23 09:51:41 +0000 UTC]

Instead of replying to my arguement, you called me emo. By unrelated, I meant more that you were sidestepping a bit...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

oOMunchyOo In reply to ruby-skylar [2011-02-23 09:54:21 +0000 UTC]

Nope, I wasn't calling you emo. I was scoffing at the notion of one being completely controlled by chemicals. No I'm not refuting science, I believe in it. However, it's very much possible to "stop being sad and be awesome instead". You have to WANT it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ruby-skylar In reply to oOMunchyOo [2011-02-23 09:59:04 +0000 UTC]

Firstly, I know that one isn't completely controlled by chemicals, but the imbalance sure makes things worse. I also know that meds alone aren't enough to change someone. Secondly, wanting to change is hard when one is depressed. It's hard to explain, but it's like you don't believe you can change, kind of? Thirdly, I took 'keep on thinking you're unimportant' as calling me emo, my bad. And finally, 'stop being sad and be awesome instead.' If that's a How I Met Your Mother reference, kudos

I really like this stamp, but I have a small problem with the wording. "you've been strong for too long." That sends the message that you should give up, which I believe is not the case. "so long" would be a better as it still carries the message without that dark undertone of suicide that I feel from this stamp.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dust-to-dustcircles In reply to Khauzy [2011-02-23 07:02:06 +0000 UTC]

Agreed. Though I don't see it as giving up, more like it is inevitable...or something.

But yeah, good critique.

This. Is. So. F*cking. True. You've just said what I have tried to tell people, over and over again, in just a few words. Wow. W.O.W. I've been so depressed inside for a while, but it doesn't mean that I'm weak. You're right. I've just been strong for too long.
Thank you.

I've always thought I was weak because I cried because something had upset me, and felt that crashing feeling because I knew it was minor, but it didn't seem so minor to me. Or, something big had happened and all I could manage to do was escape inside my thoughts, which wasn't always the best place to go. This all made me feel weak, and it made the crying worse because I find it weak.

But, this stamp really just... Made me smile and made my day. And it made me realize I was strong, but I would have had to crumble sometime.
