Description
I saw this in the Group Description of #Depression-victims and asked if I could make it into a Stamp, and was given permission to do so.For
GIMP 2.6.11
Edit:
If you have something to say, please limit it to critique on the stamp itself, not the message behind it. I have no associating with the Group, I simply thought it was a nice statement and converted it into a stamp.

Thank-you!! I've been depressed for a while and one of my friends tried to kill herself. So now everyone thinks that she was depressed because she wanted to be depressed. And I'm thinking 'you b**** she didn't want to be depressed! She wanted to die because of a f***ing a**hole broke up with her and she was too weak to think otherwise. Not everyone who is depressed is depressed because they want to be.' The girl who said that is still one of my besty's though.

Amen to the statement! I hope that this stamp can help to give hope to everyone who's depressed and is on the verge of a breakdown and show them that they are not alone and there are people who can help to cope with the feelings.

I almost burst into tears when I read this because it's so true. Being one that has suffered through depression pretty much my whole life, I can admit I've tried to stay strong for far too long far too many times. I um... I wanna say thanks for making this stamp. It lets me know there are people that understand, and it really makes me feel better.

My mom suffered depression because of family drama which was always blamed on her. But she's really strong and helped herself. I always hug her and admire her because she's the woman I look up to in life.
This stamp is very touching. Thank you for making it and getting the message across

that is by far the best stamp i have ever seen, it is actually inspirational, and speaks loads to my current state, so very few people understand true depression. Thank you for this stamp.

What do you know? Do you really think people WANT to be depressed? Sure, some people pretend or use it as an excuse, but most people who actually DO have it would never willingly admit it for this reason right here--thinking it's a weakness. Some people don't even KNOW they have it because they think it's normal or it's their fault and instead try to be strong and fix it on their own. It's actually a STRENGTH to get help if you think you have it or to tell people who should know about it because its a HUGE step to getting better. Usually the hardest step to get over.
So please, STOP with that stupid stigma. You're not helping by being mean.

As a long time sufferer of Depression myself I must say that I have to agree with Zima.
I used to agree with the sentiment of this stamp, but that only lead to me fancying myself a victim, when I was just a dumb brat who needed to put on her big girl panties and deal with life.
Yeah a lot of times people do need to reach out and get help, but there's a huge difference between that and making a whiny show of it.

"...some people pretend or use it as an excuse, but most people who actually DO have it would never willingly admit it for this reason right here--thinking it's a weakness."
Read my comment five-hundred times. Did I say BEING depressed makes you weak? No, I said whining about it does. Facing it and actually acting upon it makes you strong.
I'm not going to be weak and whine about how tough my life is or spill out my life-story on the internet, but I'm not the really mean one here. The ones that put those thoughts into your head that being depressed or bipolar or having AIDS or headcrabs makes you weak are.

Real strength comes from the battles before...to push on without a cause is pointless
if you lasted as long as you did you'll have strength to spare (or just enough to get you through it all)

Depression can be from legitimate events, but it can also be just from mental illness (illegitimate depression).

how does an illness make it illegitimate?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Netufi In reply to iambecky [2011-02-23 04:41:15 +0000 UTC]
No, I mean not being depressed because of an event (or series of events) in your life; as in just being depressed over nothing in particular (a mental disorder). Those depression commercials you see usually target people with the mental disorder, not just normal depression.

Right, but that isn't something they can help either. Their brain is wired to make them miserable.
