Description
Long ago, ShoreScales were quite a different and intimidating tribe. While most details are lost to time, it is known that the two dominant tribes of Chimarra used to be ShadeScales with their desert kingdom and ShoreScales who sailed the ocean in their mysterious sailboats. And While ShadeScales where meticulous record-keepers, ShoreScales were a loose (and tad uneducated) tribe, so any good information on the past of ShoreScales is usually found in old ShadeScale documents (which still isn't much, as not many survived.)ShoreScales get their name for their affinity of the sea and how they prefer to stay on shores if they stayed on land at all. ShoreScales were born to the ocean and were/are impressive swimmers, even if they lack gills. Their 3 horns used to be an impressive crown atop their head, which were apparently strong enough to ram through wooden boards and dragonets often had headbutt fights to see who was stronger.
ShoreScales' bright, colorful scales and glowing sails may seem pretty now, but most ShadeScale information about ShoreScale tells that they were an almost barbaric tribe; some ships raiding towns in the night with the only warning sign being their glow in the night as they reached ashore. Either the town would surrender or be torn apart by this tribe who was even fairly resistant to any fire-breath with their hard, glossy scales.
That isn't to say all ShoreScales were bad however, sometimes they were known for peaceful trade and even communication. But since ShoreScales never had a proper Queen or King, there were some pleasant ShoreScales and some very nasty ones.
They may have had an 'official' Queen at some point back then, so ShadeScales had something to write down for it.
ShoreScales long had their unique naming system (essentially having separate last names usually passed down from the dragonet's mother, ex. Splash Tirade, daughter of Dolphin Tirade.)
At some point, ShoreScales fell to a sudden rise in SharkScales as they became more and more emboldened around 2000 years ago. Large pods would sink even the most impressive ShoreScale ships and ShoreScales were forced to take cover on land - and the ShadeScale towns certainly weren't inviting them to stay.
Now finally onto the Queen Myriad. A mysterious figure who rose to power to lead all the surviving ShoreScales to a new home, so that the tribe wouldn't die out. She was the first ever anima discovered (and possibly the first to ever exist) and she was a true anima at that. ShoreScales from violent ships and peaceful ships were willing to join together under this indestructible leader, who as legend has it, was able to kill dozens of SharkScales at a time.
Myriad was an odd character, no one knew where she came from exactly and she wasn't one to talk about her heritage. She came from a relatively unknown and small ship, and she was never given a proper name and has only gone by her father's family name, "Myriad." It always seemed like she was an unwanted child.
She had some unique characteristics even for a ShoreScale at the time, like sharpened dewclaws and her tall stature for a ShoreScale (which could just be because she's an anima but...) Myriad doesn't have any obvious hybrid features otherwise though, and the dewclaws and size only made her even more effective at fighting off SharkScales.
Some say the ship she was on was the last one to be taken down by SharkScales, but that's probably just an exaggeration to make her even more impressive.
Myriad was a great leader and was able to save ShoreScales in the end, even if that led ShoreScales down a very different path that to what they once were. Albeit she was a bit bossy or stubborn at times, at least she was good at keeping everyone together. She definitely came across as hard to please though when she was alive, although mural depictions of her show her as a purely heroic figure.
Myriad had no education as a dragonet and had to learn to actually read and write once she was a Queen, she actually had very terrible handwriting and openly hated having to write at all though she begrudgingly agreed to write some things. She preferred art to depict things and she eventually led the tribe to lose writing entirely in favor of pictures for communicating. It was much less wordy that way.
Myriad's anima power was actually a sort of persuasion, as if she could push genetics in her favor and allow ShoreScales to quickly adapt to art, climbing and caves.
Queen Myriad lived a very long time (she was born around the time Darkstalker was) and she lived for 1000 years I'm thinking. And never once was she challenged as Queen, she became too popular at some point and the tribe began to only trust her to lead. She had been there for so long, how could any of her great-great-whatever-granddaughters take her place? Even though she slowly became tired and quiet, she was their Queen forever it would seem.
Until one night, Queen Myriad was found dead with a last painting depicting a goodbye. She had ended her own life.
The tribe was devastated, but eventually they moved on to a new Queen. And they called her by her family name as an honor to the original Queen Myriad and perhaps as good luck.
Some conspiracy theorists still believe Queen Myriad must have faked her own death and is still alive somewhere. How could such a Queen be ended like that? But her dead body is covered still in that room she was found dead in, with her painting left untouched and protected.
but anyway, I think that's all I had to say on Queen Myriad for now. also yes, past ShoreScales are lowkey based on pirates. And Queen Thrashkill's "castle" is definitely a large, old sunken ship. Also Emerald Myriad's handwriting is based on the writings of Queen Myriad as the only remaining example of writing, so he writes stuff in her bad handwriting as if that's the way the written language looks.
And if you haven't guessed at all yet, Queen Myriad is one quarter SharkScale. She doesn't show much of it though, luckily I guess.
