Description --:This story contains: Flattening:--

Emily sat in her usual chair for maths class. She always arrived for classes early as she was so eager to learn. In front of her lay a tower of heavy books, containing information of algebra, trigonometry and what seemed to the other students as quantum mechanics. She looked upon her mega books and grabbed the algebraic book, followed by placing it in front of her. She waved her straight long red hair back so it didn't surround her brown eyes. Emily scratched her freckles as she opened the agonisingly long algebraic book. She turned to page 361 to do some quick questions before the others arrived to class. Not even the teacher was there yet, as he was still having lunch. Emily happily flicked through the book and answers questions in complete silence. She tapped her pencil occasionally on the table. Emily took a dashed look at a jar filled with green glittering liquid at the other end of the table. Before the teacher had gone out, he had told Emily specifically to not open the jar that lay at the other end of the table. This was old news for her; she had been told this hundreds of times before. Every day, he would leave the jar there, go out and eat, then come back and take it away.
"He said something about letting it cool in the air?" Emily spoke to herself. She always just ignored it and got on with work, but today, of all days, she was curious. She placed her pencil on the desk, and looked at the jar. The liquid appeared to move on its own. Emily's eyes were entranced by the moving liquid. She reaches over to the jar and picks it up.

The jar was quite hot, although not too hot to touch. She began to untwist the metallic lid that contained the mysterious liquid. Blue and yellow steam raises instantly out of the jar, racing to the top of the roof. Emily looks from atop the jar to see it from a top view. She placed the jar carefully beside her algebra book. The liquid smelt like a mint. A million mouth washes into one jar. It was almost overwhelming for Emily, as she instantly bobbed her head away from the jar upon first sniffing it. Emily comes to a conclusion that's it's a type of mint drink, and it would freshen her mouth. Emily was a tad thirsty, and was curious to say the least. She picked the jar up, followed by bringing it to her mouth. She held her mouth closed and took a gulp. She realised she should have only taken a sip, but she was really enjoying the drink. She stopped before it became noticeable she had drank from it. She reached across the table to put it back in place, placing the lid carefully back on. As she was laying over her giant book, she began tingling. She placed the liquid down, and shook all over. She layed on her book, helpless. She felt herself becoming lighter.
"W-what's happening?" She exclaimed. Although, no-one could hear the as everyone had gone to lunch. Emily started becoming smaller.
"I'm shrinking! Help!" She squealed, but even if someone was there, no-one would have heard her. She became smaller and smaller with her clothes and fell onto the book. She became smaller than a mouse. As big as two words on the now Earth-sized book. Emily stood on the open book, alone. As the air particles pushed past her, what would have been a gentle breeze for regular sized Emily was now a gust of ferocious wind. Her skirt blew all around, but she was able to resist it and the wind gently stopped.

As she was compensating what to do, the teacher re-entered the room. Emily screams for his attention, but he could not hear her.
"Huh, Emilys gone? Probably gone to the toilet" the teacher thought aloud. He grabbed the jar and placed it back in a desk, followed by locking it. He went up to Emily's book, where Emily stood tiny. He picked up her answer book.
"Huh. I guess she's already done. All the questions are answered." He quietly speaks to himself, but it was a bellow to Emily. The teacher closes the answer book, then picks up the end of the algebraic book. Emily instantly knew what this meant. This book would weigh tonnes for her tiny body. She stood in the middle of the book. She screamed at the top of her lungs for the teacher to notice her, but to no avail. The teacher began to close the book on top of Emily, not noticing her. Emily begins to run towards the edge of the books, hoping she could get off it in time. The book was huge and it was like a mile, but she made an attempt anyway. She ran as fast as her little legs could carry her. The other side of the book was at the peak height, and began to drop with the teacher's hand helping slam it down faster. Emily ran and ran. The book was nearing closure. Emily screamed as she neared the edge of the book. She could see the edge, she had a little bit of hope.
"I'm gonna make it! I'm gonna make i-!"
SQUISH! Emily was instantly crushed under the book's weight, flattening her instantly. The teacher picks up the book and places it on Emily's answer book. He then sat in his chair, drank his coffee and waited for lunch to end. Emily remained squished flat in the book, flatter than paper. A million tonnes atop of her. The only time her body would see the light of day again is if someone opened the book on her page, to reveal a limp, tiny squashed girl, plastered to the page.
