Quick ‘n VERY lazy reference-y thing for clothing and general height estimate, since I’ll be drawing all 3 of these losers interacting a lot more over at the ask blog .
The mystery man is a foot taller than papyrus, so I believe once whole and upright, Gaster is probably even taller than that (poor guy can never find pants that are long enough).

I agree with Gaster and Papyrus's height, but Sans is always seen as super short...why?
Sans's character sprite reaches as tall as Pap's shoulders, so why is he always drawn so smol?

It's a bit complicated. I'm on mobile atm so I can't link it to you but there is a height chart for all the main UT characters based on in-game measurements, and at 4'8", Sans is about 2 feet shorter than Papyrus. He's also shown in game to be only 1 pixel taller than a human child (Frisk).
That said, he should still be taller here in comparison to the other two. The issue I've been running into with that is proportions: whenever I draw Sans closer to a realistic height, he looks deformed when placed side by side with other characters; this is because his head is HUGE and his legs are incredibly short. So, factoring in my personal limitations as an artist, there are 2 solutions: change Sans' proportions to look more properly humanlike and be of an accurate height, or make him shorter than he should be, but with proportions roughly intact.
Obviously, I've gone with the latter because it's less detrimental overall to his character design.
I hope that makes sense! I will definitely continue to work with it and see if I can find a way to maintain his proportions while scaling up his height a bit.

I think I've seen that chart, but the sprits I meant were the battle ones in black&white.
But yeah, I understand where you're coming from on this.
Either make it real or make it work for you. the latter often wins out.

I gotcha. I believe the battle sprites roughly follow the same scale, but I haven't looked very deep into it.
But like I said, I'll keep working with it for sure because there's always room for improvement.
