SHORT STORY
The warmer seasons have brought beautiful weather among the sprouting of all things colorful in most of Alaska. Fresh green grass, beautiful wildflowers, and blossoming trees were just the beginning of the better seasons. Of course some days could be harsh even during these seasons, there were still days for the beautiful life bloom in the valley. On this particular beautiful day, a hunting party travelled quietly along the mountainside. David, the handler with the Tokota pack, sat atop Amarok the sphinx who guided the group if needed and was also there simply to bring back more prey for their villagers to use up. No part would go to waste! Even the bones were given to the Tokota's to chew and crush, which were much enjoyed. Travelling with David and Amarok was a particular group of close-knit Tokota's that came from the same pack. They consisted of Tigiaq, Auksalak, Musidora, Minugluktuk, and Ivaktuk. They travelled in a tight pack and walked with pride through the land. All animals, even the dreaded grizzly bear, fear these hulking beasts. They were the top predator and they ruled these lands without a problem. Of course there was the occasional incident including poachers but that was another story for another time. The pack began to linger low with a low profile to not give anything off of the prey they were preparing to hunt. They had to stay low and hidden to spook the creatures. They have hunted mountain goat plenty of times to know the drill and tactics to bring down the creatures. It truly was not hard to provoke a male goat to attack, as the hooved mini-beasts were always itching for a fight. Especially the young males who just got their full racks- they proved to be the easiest to provoke. And as long as the Tokota's did not hunt the females, victorious strong males, or the young, the mountain goat numbers would remain large and abundent for the Tokota's and villagers to continue hunting. The party moved quicker now as they grew excited after tracking the mountain goat scents. The scents grew stronger which only made the Tokota's ready and excited for the hunt. They fanned out accordingly as they got closer to the unexpecting herd. As they got closer, they began to circle around- each Tokota knowing where it was supposed to go, and without fail. Within minutes, each of the hunters were nested quietly and hidden behind rocks and mountain folage, laying down while they waited for Amarok and Musidora- who were leading the hunt- popped out to initate the hunt. David sat on the sidelines, well away from the potential danger (mountain goats are no beast to tango with), but close enough to watch the action. He watched in excitement, loving to watch the Tokota's hard at work and working together to keep the goats in place and aggrivating the beasts to get an easy kill. Their patience began to pay off as Amarok and Musidora finally initating the hunt. They sprung from their hidden location, immediately causing panic and fear within the goats numbers. The females and children naturally grouped together and merged in the center of the herd. The males- both young and old- circled around them, creating a tight circle and an intimdating wall for the Tokota's to harass. The canine beasts closed in, pacing around the herd to find any goat who may look like he wishes to flee or perhaps injured or weak goats there they could harass out. Ivaktuk made the first move, targetting a weaker young male who seemed to had growth problems as one of his horns did not grow entirely. It was not even broken off, it simply stopped growing and became a mere bump on the rams head. It made him an easy target as the Tokota's would prefer a healthy goat but with defects which meant it probably would not live long anyways should it get attacked. Ivaktuk charged in, nipping and biting aggressively while snarling at the goat who bleated in fear and pain. A larger male ram, but still young, stepped in which then attracted Minugluktuk who came in from the side, bodyslamming the mini-beast and pinning down the now bleating goat. Ivaktuk gave a thankful glare before snapping down on her targets' hind leg and dragging the unfortunate goat from the rest of the herd and quickly putting an end to it's life. Musidora and Amarok worked a goat together, teasing it back and fourth until finally exhausting the poor creature who fell to it's knee's, looking up wishfully towards the merciless Tokota's who rather enjoyed hunting the horned beasts. Auksalak was the last to find a suitible target for himself. Of course, the regal curly wanted top picks. He trotted around, intimading multiple goats before one finally charged towards him and he quickly fought down the goat and successfully brought it down.
