Description
Updated version with the new submission page, ahaha. Because my old one is sooo out of date now. x'D (also redone the deviation itself for a second time so it's less sloppy and looks prettier hahaha)
Anywho, yep. Figured this could help out a lot of people who don't already know about it LOL.
CONFUSED ABOUT HOW MANY POINTS = HOW MANY USD BECAUSE YOU HEARD ABOUT/READ ABOUT IT BEING 80 = $1? Read this: strxbe.deviantart.com/journal/β¦
IMPORTANT INFO: This ONLY works when someone "buys" something from you! You cannot take your existing points balance and turn them into USD. If you think of a way to get around it, it's against dA's TOS, but I'm not telling you what you should or shouldn't do LOL. Just be prepared to take that risk of getting your account suspended or banned from using the Premium Download feature.
Each download on a deviation can only be bought ONCE PER PERSON. So if you're having people pay beforehand, make sure to make new deviations for regular customers! Also, the prices you set can always be changed whenever you like- just edit the deviation like normal and you can change the price.
Additional from the old deviation: "So, if you put something up for points, you have to wait two weeks until you can get the points?"
---Yes haha when you use the points > USD conversion, it will take two weeks before you can withdraw the Earnings as points. Not only that, but if you use the conversion, dA will take 20% of the points. So you may have it up for 100points, but when you withdraw, it'll only be 80points.
So I suggest if you want to sell your commissions/etc for points only, that you do NOT use this Premium Download and just get points the normal way.
Hope this is helpful!
Feel free to ask any questions you may have or ask for any sort of clarification. I'll explain as best I can in detail!
Also, check the comments- your question may have already been explained once before!

Hey I have a question: If you have payment in points that people have payed for before (by giving) would this still count as being 'bought' so you can transfer it to money like USD

That's it! When you click "withdraw with PayPal", it'll have you put in your PayPal email (if you haven't already, it's been a long time since I've had to connect a PayPal to deviantART haha so some of the specifics are a little fuzzy)
Then you put in the amount of your earnings that you want to withdraw (there has to be a minimum of $5 to withdraw) and click withdraw and it's done! You should be able to check your PayPal within the next few minutes and see the $$$ amount there. If not within minutes, then within 24 hours.
Does this help?

Ooooh, it sounds like you're just in the waiting period then!
Every transaction, whether it be through giving points or the commission widget, will take two weeks to process before they can be withdrawn. So once it's been 14 days from you accepting the commission/points, THEN you should be able to withdraw it to your PayPal.

Can you please explain a little more? I'm not sure I understand haha.Β
You can only withdraw what has been already converted to your paypal. So, for example, if you had 500 points as points sitting in your earnings or whatever else, you can't just withdraw those points to PayPal. They have to already be converted to $5.00 via the commissions widget or premium download- that is the only way. You can't change already existing points into USD, they must be converted when you receive them.
If they ARE converted already and you have a $$$ amount in your earnings, then you have to have a minimum of $5.00 to withdraw anything to PayPal.

Wait, so, let's say someone pays me for a custom commission (meaning they request a certain character to be drawn). The same person will NOT have to pay again if they want another commission of a different character??
π: 0 β©: 1
strxbe In reply to UmekoTomeko [2016-02-20 22:05:30 +0000 UTC]
If you are using the Commissions Widget to take commissions, then (if I remember correctly, it's been a long time haha) I'm fairly sure they can request more than one commission just fine and you'll get the payment from them with no problems.
If you're using a Premium Download for your method of receiving payment, then it needs to be a NEW upload each time for it to accept payment from a deviant more than once.Β
Which, all that means is, you have to upload a new deviation each time the same person is paying with a premium download. The same person can commission you an infinite amount of times, you just have to have a new, fresh place for them to pay for it. This can mean an entirely new deviation or, if you're using payment pages (like I do here:Β strxbe.deviantart.com/gallery/β¦ ) you could simply adjust the price of one page temporarily for the person to pay, and then adjust it back afterwards. For example, if someone has already commissioned you and paid on a 500points payment page once before but need to pay for a 500points commission again, you could change the price of your 600points Payment to 500points, let them pay it there, then change it back to 600 again once they're finished. Though remember that if you do that, they now will need a new page if they ever need to pay 600points.Β
The reason it is this way is because the premium download feature has no way of knowing that someone is technically paying for something else rather than what is offered as the deviation or what they paid for the first time. When you're using the Premium Download feature, the buyer is actually paying a price to gain the privilege to download the deviation in full resolution at their leisure. So by buying it, they're now allowed to download it as many times as they want because they've 'unlocked' that feature. So for them, the payment button no longer exists- it's just a download button. The way we get around this is by using a different deviation for a different commission or by deleting the old deviation entirely and uploading a new one.Β
I hope this helps! Feel free to ask if you have any more questions or need more clarification on things.Β

This is going to seem like a really silly question...but just for clarification...
So I've been doing commissions and have been accumulating $$$ in my transactions.Β
When I withdraw that money, will my points go down? Β I'm assuming they will but just the way it looks appears almost as if you get point and dollar credit for the transactions...
Sorry again for the silly question but I just wanted to clarify. Β

Sorry for the late reply!
No worries, always good to make sure haha. And who knows, maybe by now you've already gotten your question answered. x'D
If this is what you're talking about, then no that it just displaying the separate funds you have: Cash and Points. Using/withdrawing one will not affect the other.
Though, if this sort of thing is what you're talking about, then yes you are not actually getting both Points and USD per transaction.
All that is showing is how much total credit you received for that specific premium download and how much you would receive of either currency when you withdraw them. It defaults to the dollar amount shown since that's what premium download is generally used for, but as you can see in the first screenshot I linked, you are also able to re-convert those dollar earnings back into points if you desire. The points shown in ( ) is showing you how many points you'd receive if you re-converted them back into points.
I hope that answers your question!

It's alright!
Once you transfer your points into money, you withdraw it from deviantART to your PayPal account. From there, you can withdraw the money in your PayPal account to your bank account.Β
From there, it's used just like any other money! You can use a debit card or cash, anything!

Sorry for the late reply!
If someone sends you points by gifting or using a donation pool, then they CAN'T be converted into USD in your Earnings.Β
You can only convert points by using a Premium Download like what is shown in the tutorial.Β
