Description
Beautiful scene in the manga where Darren puts on suddenly realises that his Father-figure and mentor, Mr Crepsley, is dead and gone. He puts on Larten's coat, and cries into it.The Sadness.
I only coloured this in with gimp.

Yeah, sometimes the manga really expanded on the emotional aspects of the novels. :]
I'm not sure if they're online ( I know a lot of Manga sites were shut down) but volumes 1 to 7 are out and translated in English in the US now, with the eighth in a month or so!

They really killed the best character in the book?!

SuperDecimal In reply to RoseaVontear [2010-12-31 22:34:47 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, it was a major turning point in the book.
Afterwards, Darren had to act independently and prove he was old enough and wise enough himself to live by himself, without his teacher to hold his hand.

Steve charges him, and he falls over the edge of the platform, holding onto Steve's chain, and then bargains with the Vampaneze that if they let Darren and the others leave freely, he'd exchange their safety for his life.
Tand he lets go and is impaled by the stakes and burned alive.

Ahh I remember reading this part in class. Teacher was giving a lesson on verbs or some shit like that and I was reading. All excited because I thought that they saved Larten...only to realize that they strewed me over and it all was a fat lie. Gasped out loud in class, got a lot of weird stares, then refused to pick the book back up again for about a week. Friend of mine had to convience me that getting pissed off over a book is not normal. I still don't feel the same about the series since they killed off Larten. Darn you Darren Shan!!!!
Larten Crepsley you are forever young in our hearts!!! ( Random outburst of emotion)

Yeah, my favourite character was Larten, so I felt so unmotivated to carry on reading.
But I thought it was really good to make us feel Darren's mindset.
So far, it was Mr C that was the leader and being the safety net. He always knew what to do and seemed to have all the answers, and without him, Darren was forced to become his own, individual person and rely only on himself, which was daunting concept, which we as readers also felt.

D: I cried when I read it in the books. I couldn't sleep that night, thinking about it. I was so tempted to just stop and not read the last three, but I didn't want to stop when I was so close, so I read the rest. Glad I did; the last books were still really good.

Awesome sauce!
How does PS compare to Gimp?
People say it's basically like a better version of the gimp xD
Was thinking of buying it maybe if I had the monies, if PS is that much better! ^__^

mikrilla In reply to SuperDecimal [2010-12-14 19:20:51 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, exactly, the better version of Gimp. But Gimp is awesome, so definitely don't buy it. >^.^<
My dad downloaded it for me from somewhere though, that's why I have PS now, instead of Gimp.

I tried a trial version of PS somewhere a short while ago, but it seemed to new and complex I felt intimidated and went running back to gimp - which was silly really. xD
I guess the fact it was temporary, and would stop being able to use it made trying to learn it seem pointless.
Maybe I'll invest in it soon ^_^

Yeah, the tenth book feels like a mission to read afterwards due to the lack of Mr. Crepsley, and how depressing the book 9 became.
Takes a lot of balls and credibility as a writer to do such an action, killing off one of your main characters.

Oh yes, it took me like a week to read book ten because I kept putting it down. It was good and all, but it just seemed a little boring at first without Mr. Crepsley.
I had always figured he would die because he almost immediately became my favorite character. I don't know how it is with other people, but my favorite characters always seem to die lol.

I know exactly what you mean.
The books was great.
I guess it felt a bit stand-offish to read, as we were in the exact place Darren was.
Before, we'd had the safety net of Mr C to back us up and support us, acting as the leader.
Now it was all upto Darren (and us by extension) to act for ourselves, and it was intimidating.

Oh yeah, I kept thinking, "Mr. Crepsley will pop up any moment and get Darren out of trouble", even after I finished reading book ten.

The mangas are really interesting in that they're usually 85% of the time absolutely faithful to the books, and with the changes they make, they enhance the parts of the book they illustrate and make it feel much more powerful. I think this was definitely one of those scenes.
