Description
This sprung from *BlueFlyer 's journal entry about representing oneself as a horsie of one's favourite breed. I realise I don't really draw horses a great deal nowadays, though I used to a lot, and they're a lot of fun to revisit. (This was originally supposed to be a silly doodle ref, for marking and colour experiments only, to be stuck in scraps. But I ended up shading and tweaking and now I like it enough to put in my main gallery. xD)So, meet Cider. :3
She's not going to be a replacement for Swift or anything like that, but she is supposed to represent me as a horse. I like the idea of keeping her around because I do have quite a number of friends that represent themselves with horses or other ungulates, and it'd be nice for me to have a horsie of my own that they can pal around with!
She's supposed to be a Thoroughbred mare but I don't know how successful I was at making her look like one. >.>; I love those horses, we had retired racers at my old stable and they were lovely things. <3 And yes, chestnut is my favourite horsecolour, go figure.
I couldn't decide between Autumn Apples and Cidre Doux (French sweet cider) for her registered name (but apparently a show name and a registered name can be separate? horse-savvy peoples, please enlighten me. x.x) Though I think if I could only pick one I'd go with Cidre Doux - fits better for a racehorse I think. :B heh.

awe!!!!!! absoulutley brill! i love it. if my friends sarah and ashley (They dont play this sight) saw this they would probley try to jump in the computer screen to be with the horse they LOVE horses lol. But this amazingly cute!

From the thumbnail I thought she looked a bit like Swift, so I'm glad to see I wasn't far off!

If you're looking for ideas, I think gypsy cobs are adorable! That, and a Shetland pony with attitude would be highly amusing.

Oh, what a /beautiful/ color! This really came out striking, you just finally hit an incredible color of russet orange that hit me in the face when I saw it! Ah, my color-love screams with joy.
Horse!Swift (Cider), is stunningly beautiful I'm especially in love with her mane and eyes. SO sparklingly beautiful and deep. The pose, while simple, really suits her and the mood of the picture.

Honestly, I'm attracted to the warm colors. Most people either go overboard with rainbows of evil despair, or they're "awesome" colors...like purple, blue, or black. It's just nice to see X3

This one's adorable, and you've got such nice, soft linework. Couldn't tell that you haven't drawn horses in a while; it must be like riding a bike

Aw, thanks lovely! I think I stopped drawing them for a while because they were starting to look a bit 'Spirity' and people kept giving me OMG IT'S JUST LIKE SPIRIT!! comments, so I took some time off to study them some more, particularly the heads and faces. It's helped, but I still have a lot of things to learn I think. Riding for four years gave me a base of sorts, anyway, I was really into horses for that period, so I studied the live ones a lot and that helped me form a foundation. It was also before Spirit came out, so I was less susceptible to the influence of that movie. Anyway I look forward to drawing them again! I have been thinking about some ideas for some friends for Cider. :3

Oh she's gorgeous! And so...well, YOU! Her color is so rich, and the name is perfect. I do like the Cidre Doux name best. And my favorite part is the one black hoof. I don't know why, but it makes me think of how we all have faults, but we can overcome them and we are all the more beautiful and strong for it. Love this!

I love how you incorporated some of Swift's design into her. The chestnut shade's really gorgeous. The star and snip are really cute too! I love how you do shading. The long hair looks long and soft, and the short hair looks fine, soft, and short. Just like how its supposed to look.
Go figure though, I doodled swift as a horse eons ago and drew a Laqqara going "So, you run as fast as a whippet or a horse now?" or something like that but eh I need to find that and scan it. Along with the one of Swift in an octopus suit from a few nights ago... that one still makes me giggle

omg!! Find the SwiftHorse and Laq one, that sounds funny! xD I haven't really said this much and I don't want to make you feel guilty or anything, but I just want to tell you so you know. Swift is a whippet. Nothing else. Her whippetness is part of her character and without it she just wouldn't be Swift, she'd be something else with similar markings. That's why I made Cider a separate character, not just 'Swifthorse'. I'm going to probably give her a story and some canon-friends as well, which Swift doesn't have. :3 I suppose you could say Cider is Swift's fursona. xD Still, people have drawn Swift as other things before, and hey that's always fun! Maybe that was part of my intention in making Cider, so people can have a horsie to draw with their horsies, instead of just horsifying Swift. I should do that with other species.

I love it, her snip amuses me, it blends well into her muzzle, where as most horses I've seen when that happens the snip makes an abnormally pink patch rather than the smooth almost gradient affect Cider has.
I wonder which of my sketchbooks its in... I'll definitely have to find it.

I'm not sure whether he was a Thoroughbred, but we had quite a few of them anyways and I like them so yes. xD (not to mention they were developed in old England. LIKE WHIPPETS.)
