Description
This sprung from *BlueFlyer 's journal entry about representing oneself as a horsie of one's favourite breed. I realise I don't really draw horses a great deal nowadays, though I used to a lot, and they're a lot of fun to revisit. (This was originally supposed to be a silly doodle ref, for marking and colour experiments only, to be stuck in scraps. But I ended up shading and tweaking and now I like it enough to put in my main gallery. xD)So, meet Cider. :3
She's not going to be a replacement for Swift or anything like that, but she is supposed to represent me as a horse. I like the idea of keeping her around because I do have quite a number of friends that represent themselves with horses or other ungulates, and it'd be nice for me to have a horsie of my own that they can pal around with!
She's supposed to be a Thoroughbred mare but I don't know how successful I was at making her look like one. >.>; I love those horses, we had retired racers at my old stable and they were lovely things. <3 And yes, chestnut is my favourite horsecolour, go figure.
I couldn't decide between Autumn Apples and Cidre Doux (French sweet cider) for her registered name (but apparently a show name and a registered name can be separate? horse-savvy peoples, please enlighten me. x.x) Though I think if I could only pick one I'd go with Cidre Doux - fits better for a racehorse I think. :B heh.

Lol, that's actually kind of amusing to hear you say that because I used to draw horses and equines A LOT. In fact if you sift back to 06 and especially 05 in my gallery there is still a fairish number of them. I think after a while though they started provoking OMG ITZ LYKE SPIRITZ comments, so I just stopped submitting them for a while and instead worked on them to make them look less like that style. x3 I hope it's paying off somewhat.
I take comfort in the fact that at least one person recognised her as a thoroughbred. xD but seriously I do appreciate any input you might have, I admit to being completely clueless about horses, at least as far as breeds and type are concerned. :3

I SHOULD start drawing horses again, I've always loved them. I think I stopped because I was getting all these OMG IZ SPIRIT??! comments, so I stopped posting horses so I could work on them looking less like that style. I could tell I was getting dangerously close to that myself. Hopefully I've managed to steer away somewhat!
It means a lot you'd say she looks like Swift. <3 I suppose essentially she is Swift's equisona too. xD

I think your style has developed enough to be considered your own as opposed to 'of that style'
Those people who constantly tell you that your art looks like something/body else's have no imagination and are too blinded by the same old art that they cannot see individuality anymore. It's kinda sad.
I think I have some sketches kicking about that would do nicely for this horsey venture

I think a lot of people tend to just see what is in the mainstream and compare everyone's art to what exists there. Because my horses are a mixture of realism with a little 'animated' feel to the face and expressions, people are quick to label me 'Disney/Dreamworks style'. I've been trying to push my stylistic envelopes a bit further on my own though - now I've got a somewhat solid foundation, it's time to have some more fun!

I did a silly meme/quiz to see which breed of horse I am, the result was Fresian, which tbh is a bit same old, so yeah, I like the idea of being a short and dumpy shetland pony xD

She needs a longer face :3 She has a cute little Quarter horse face right now...but Thoroughbreds have big eligant heads. And Tbs have a thinner frame with a longer back. <.< Sorry, I love my tbs. She has a lovely face, exsprressive eyes and a very lovely color!

Oh please don't apologise! I freely admit that I have no idea how to make horse breeds look distinct beyond a certain type or build (heavy, light, stocky, etc) so I appreciate your input very much. :3 thanks! I love chestnuts. <3

Answer: registered name / show name
With thoroughbreds you don't show in breed shows (at least I have never seen one) so you can name your horse whatever you want when you show it (hence show name), because the shows are not keeping track of your horses victories. Now, if you took a horse to a show that is hosted by the people who registered your horse (aqha, apha, ext) then you have to go by your registered name so that they can keep track of your horse's merits. If you race a thoroughbred you have to use it's registered name.

Aw, yes! I've always loved bright chestnuts - really just reds pinks oranges and yellows in general - and she was really fun to colour.

I would have to agree with Cidre Doux being her registered name, I think judges would butcher it while trying to pronounce it, lol!! Not sure if you ever watch horse racing, but that happens a lot.
Bright chestnut thoroughbreds are always pretty, and this is coming from a stock horse person so that is saying something, haha!
