Description

Chicken or chicken egg? Logan seems to be pondering this conundrum. Meanwhile I think Tanrine went with team egg just because of cute baby chicks.

Happy splatfest.Β

This has to be one of my favorite Splatoon drawings you've ever made. Even though it's super duper simple, I just really like how you used the color yellow here and seeing Tanrine's open smile with the cute chickens and chicks and just asfjdkl;afjskl;d it's so bright and cheery. <3

I would pick the chicken just because if the egg came first, how the heck would the chick survive without a mom to take care of it? xD

Science has proven that the egg came first, the chicken was a genetically mutated dinosaur and thats why we see them as close relatives of the dinosaur

But is that a chicken egg, if it wasn't laid by a chicken? Some creature that wasn't yet a chicken, laid an egg. The first chicken hatched from it and then it laid the first CHICKEN egg. So chicken was first in my opinion.

The question is not if any kind of egg existed before chicken (because that's obvious). It's specifically chicken egg. And it's up to your opinion when an egg is called chicken egg. When a chicken lays it. Or when something that is chicken hatches from it.

I know its just a theory but I believe that along the line some sort of dinosaur started growing fur, which then became feathers, then down (however you spell it) and the line got smaller and smaller until a chicken egg was laid by a dinosaur

TamarinFrog In reply to mobexplosion1 [2018-03-16 21:03:23 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I believe so too but in my opinion, you can't call an egg a "chicken egg" if it wasn't laid by a chicken. It's still a "dinosaur egg" at that point. First chicken hatches from it, and then lays first chicken egg. Thus, chicken was first.

You are free to believe that egg can be called a chicken egg even if wasn't laid a chicken because it hatches in a chicken. That's how this boils down to an opinion and there's a conundrum.

I just feel it makes more sense to call it "what-ever-laid-it egg"

The first chicken actually hatched out of an egg that was laid by a bird that wasn't a chicken.

Yuki-IceCreamKitty In reply to HeroOfComedy [2018-03-11 15:44:50 +0000 UTC]

Yeah! But the mother would be an almost chicken, since the genetic mutations that make a species evolve are small. Now the real question is: Was the egg that the first chicken hatched out of a chicken egg or an almost-chicken egg?

Scientifically speaking, organisms cannot spontaneously evolve. Evolution occurs through mutations over the course of generations. So the first ever organism that could be classified as a chicken did indeed hatch from an egg.

The question that is up for debate: Is that egg a chicken egg or not? If it is a chicken egg, egg came first. If it is not a chicken egg, chicken came first.

I would argue, since a chicken hatched from that egg, it is indeed a chicken egg. Therefore, the egg came first.

I do however, see how someone could say that it is not a chicken egg, because it did not come from a chicken. Therefore, the chicken came first.

I believe you, but my dad is biblical about EVERYTHING and ignores EVERY SIGN THAT ANIMALS GO THROUGH EVOLUTION and claims that God put chickens on earth as chickens while im sitting in the corner blabering about natural selection, mutation, and evolution and screaming at him "THE EGG CAME FIRST!" (also tbh I chose team egg bc there is an itty-bitty baby chicken on the logo)

If you go by creation, it has to be the chicken. God created Adam and Eve as adults and said he created the life on earth, then told them to reproduce.Β

Β If you go by evolution you'd first have to have something evolve into something in order for it to make more somethings. So that still says chicken firstΒ

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KirbyTardos In reply to Emberguard [2018-03-09 23:50:18 +0000 UTC]

I would argue that the first chicken hatched from an egg laid by a bird that's similar to a chicken, but not quite a chicken. A proto-chicken, I think it's been called. And the proto-chicken also evolved from something else that wasn't a chicken. So if you do believe in evolution (which, if you don't, then you don't believe in science, really) the egg definitely came first.
(note: I'm not trying to argue. Just discuss)

Emberguard In reply to KirbyTardos [2018-03-10 01:25:42 +0000 UTC]

Believing in science is not the same as believing in evolution

Β science is observation of surroundings and coming to a conclusion, something I believe man uses to test their own knowledge.Β

Β evolution is a theory that many have debunked, and many have supported.Β

Β That is an interesting way of putting it though for evolutions argument.Β

Personally I don't believe the picture of evolution that we've been taught is correct. Otherwise we humans wouldn't be humans, we'd be something else by now. Not to mention no other species has changed once it got to their current forms. We still have "dinosaurs" in alligators, crocodiles and relicanths. It's a nice story..... but it's really just coming across something and trying to fill in the blanks or make connections. Scientists can't even properly construct a humans face from a skeleton alone. Not accurately, and certainly can't show colour or hair without first knowing those details before the facial reconstruction. They can only reconstruct a similar shape based on the bone structure alone. Yet the scientists still insist in showing some bones that could very well just be a monkey and say it's an evolution between monkey and man, putting facial features, colours and hair that would match the story they want to present. Evolution would also require new creation of genes not just losing them. Otherwise all you have is extinction, not evolution. But I've yet to find anything about any scientist finding genes being created. I've only seen them explain genes being passed down or lost.

Β However back to the chicken discussion. If we're defining evolution as one thing becoming anotherΒ (and of course a disability or disease wouldn't count as evolution as evolution is a mutation of the body designed to better cope with the environment, not hinder it)Β .... yeah, it'd depend at what point you'd define it as that specific animal. Assuming the evolution is determined at conception (as opposed to during their lifetime) then the egg would come first for the evolution argument.Β

KirbyTardos In reply to Emberguard [2018-03-10 17:07:40 +0000 UTC]

I'm not a scientist, haha, just a kid who flunked that class, but that's an interesting idea xD I will say that the reason humans have existed for so long is because evolution works very, very slowly. Actually, humans long ago probably wereΒ different from us. But I don't know. Still, I think most people who don't believe in evolution are people who believe that God created every creature.
