Description My school has a small magazine for art and poems and stuff. I was supposed to draw something in grayscale *facepalm* to go with a poem my language arts teacher wrote about the death of one of her students...
I don't know if I'm technically supposed to put it online, but it's very good, so I guess I'm kind of featuring it.

Remember

There is a place where
Mexican rainbow dresses
swing against music
Breath sweat on
the unbroken
language of Gods
bronze colored
from picking sun from earth
to feed the sound of laughter
mixed with naked tears

in the same place

hunger hangs from mouths,
empty for a long time,
unheard

cactus flowers cough
stab thorns and white blossoms
awake wide armed
and full across the bending
side of an Arizona mountain

One Wednesday, as quiet as
it ever was
a baby was undone

the profound beauty of this place feels

hard like frozen meat and
ice-cream truck cold popsicles

Just one pop and his
eyes blacken and bleed and lose
everything they ever held
before they even saw,
anything

when sirens are too late
(always )
someone leaves
loud and quiet
No one hears it
become part of the ground

only white t-shirts
life size pictures
carwashes
r.i.p.s on backpacks written
with rose markers on jeans
and spray painted cars

remember

because there is nothing else to.

Just some background:
I wrote this poem after a student that I worked with was shot and killed in South Phoenix Arizona.
He was 12 years old. What do you say or do when something like that happens, when you know that no action, no word could possibly be enough?

Silence is the holiest mourning. But you've done a nice work in honor to him.

I think when life is shorter than short, all we who survived yet shall honor those who departed somehow. Even elephants honor dead elephants.

I didn't find the video I wanted, but this show their mourning someway. Once I saw on TV a group of elephants surrounding an elephant who had justd died. They started lifting their snouts and making that sounds they do. They kept doing that for some time and then went away by sunset. It was something really beautiful.

Thanks.
I agree with you... And that's really sad and beautiful about the elephants. People should stop treating them like they can't feel.

It's beautiful... I especially like the eye.

I don't know how it'll look in greyscale though... Because we really can't print it in colour... Unless we put it on the first two pages on the inside but even then that might not work because of the amount of printing we have to do. Hm... Sorry. Babbling now.

It will work fine in grayscale. Most of it is already gray anyway...
I'll show the color version to our language arts teacher at least, though.

They were only twelve? thats so sad . Its horrible when a child dies.

This picture is really pretty though
I think that the color makes it better, I've never been a fan of things that are completely grayscale.

I dont think I've ever seen you draw realistic eyes before, they look really amazing, and taking into account the beautiful poem They show amazing depth and emotion.

btw, that poem was really beautiful.

I know... I think it was a while ago, but still it's really sad.
Thank you! The proportions are all messed up because I never draw like this :\ but whatever.
I agree. I'll tell my teacher you liked it. (:
