Description
*Edited: Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I changed a few things, from the butterfly to the eyes that were too dark for a personification of spring. I also went back to the original coloring I had, which was frendlier and a little rose-tinted. This is the image I finally submitted._____________________
I've redone this ([link] ) completely because I want to submit it to a contest and it wasn't nearly large enough, so I repainted it from scratch.
I'm much happier with this than with the original version, but I'd like to make it the best piece it can be, and for that I need feedback on what I can improve. So please, go ahead and tear it apart!

I'm afraid I have nothing to critisize. It's been a very long time since I've seen something as beautiful as this.

Bloody beautiful! It gets better every time you redo it. I personally love the butterfly; it's very bright and cheery. It's an exquisite piece that I'd love to buy a print of.
But if you want the critique still, the only two spots I'm not quite sure about are her shoulder (maybe there should be some more definition to her collar bone) and the amount of hair on her left side (the picture's right). Were there a little more, it would perhaps look better.
Thank you for all the work you've done. I've thoroughly fallen in love with this piece! I bow at your feet for the romantic realism you express here.

Well, I'm nowhere near as great of an artist as you so I'm not sure of what to say. It does look absolutely amazing!
Um... *attempts to think of critique* Well... I'm wondering what those two stray strands of hair are on the left side of the picture (the girl's right). It looks a bit like straw but I really can't tell. They just stick out a bit.
She also seems to have a small forehead but it could be an illusion with the bangs. Still looks fine from here. ^^
Overall, still amazing. I just love those eyes too... so deep. ^^

I must say, I like this MUCH better than the first one! And that is saying a whole lot (the first one was incredible) But the hair on this one is perfect, and the woman just looks better overall.

I agree the greenery could be turned up a notch, but really, it's already a beautiful image. She's got such a pretty fresh looking face, like a noxema commercial... and I love her gray hair, yeah I have this thing for gray hair... @__@

I like the flowers and the hair more on this (not the Oh Im not sure what it is in english the hait over the forehead, it takes so much space!) one but they eyes and face more on the other one, they are both so beutiful! and then the blue eyes look more realistic. But Who am I to tell you what I think when you are so skilled, beutiful pictures both!!!!

It's lovely. The warmer colors definitely make it more spring-y. The only thing I don't like is her eyes. They seem too dark and doe-like to me. Still, I like this one over the last for the face of Spring - v. beautiful!

WOw, it's absolutely beautiful. The level of detail is incredible, each strand of hair looks individually rendered, and thus gives an amazingly realistic effect. Her young and innocent-looking features seem to work well as the 'face of spring,' though on the older picture I liked how her hair was a little bit more wild and had an overall more energetic look. The top of her head looks a little bit short too, but I really love wispy effects of her hair. Wonderful job.

Absolutely beautiful! The details in the hair I think are unmatched! I love the light softness around and then the stunning sharpness of her eyes. I think the skin is perfect, as well.
Just wonderful all around--you're very talented!

hmm i think it's hard to decide which one's better because both show a different interpretation of "the face of spring"... but i think i'm leaning towards the first one more, because it is... simply gorgeous. it portrayed spring as a beautiful ethereal girl with soft wisps of lightly colored hair and clear blue eyes and a light, uplifting atmosphere
the second girl looks younger, and glows with youthful innocence and looks very wholesome and refreshing, but she isn't as magical as the first. i think maybe she needs a little something more on her face to catch attention, like the first one does.
i've been such a big fan of your artwork for the longest time, and on its own, i truly think this painting is perfect i think it was only possible to be nitpicky about this one because it's being compared to another one of your wonderful works. O___O

It's hard for me to tear it apart when it's so much better than anything I could do! It's lovely! I love the imagry and the way it flows. The biggest suggestion I could make it that it should be a touch greener, since it's spring. The flowers and butterflies work, but the grass and leaves need to be a bright green.

Beautiful; just like the last one. If you really want some suggestions, though, I'm happy to give them, but please don't assume I suggest anything because I believe the choices you made were wrong! If I repeat anything someone has suggested all ready, I didn't have the time to wade through 70+ comments, that's all.
I liked the gloss you put on Spring's lips in the first upload; it made the lip color more vibrant and delicate, like a flower bud. Perhaps if you made her eyecolor green instead of brown (more of a fall color) or blue (associated with summer), it would liven up her face and evoke more of a springtime effect. Her eyebrow color is wonderfully soft, but only a few sparse tones in her hair mimic it; it looks as though she bleached her eyebrows, which is to say it makes her haircolor look false. Her skintone, though, is flawless and admirable in its execution.
Perhaps some lighter green spritzed among the plants would be advisable, since all new plant growth is a light green when it first emerges. The daisies and hyacinth look a bit wilted; perhaps you could perk up a few of the petals? And if she represents Spring, then why are there no flower buds around her? A single magnolia just about to bud out would tie in the theme nicely. I primarily agree with ~OceanLord's assessment of the butterfly, in that the coloring is a little dull.
The clouds make a wonderful backdrop; I like them immensely, and the color of the sky is just perfect. It's still a gorgeous piece, and I hope my suggestions are helpful to you. I'll be looking forward to seeing the finished version!

Actually, I like this one better than the original. It looks complete. Those brown eyes are very expressive and her hair looks incredibly soft.
As for what many have said about it not quite being Spring, well, I choose not to agree. I think you have chosen an original approach to the theme. I've seen very many pics with the title of 'Spring' that use pretty much the same color scheme and attributes - fresh green and golden tones and garlands and whatnot. So it is refreshing to see a slightly diffrent take on things. I men, we all don't have to see a season in just a certain way, do we? I see your version as being early spring, that time when spring has already arrived but there's still some of that winter chill in the air. All in all I think it is a wonderful piece and I'm adding it to my favourites.

I must agree, a little more green would be nice, the browns feel a little too autumn/winterish...and I think her hair could use some more color as well. There is a lot of subtle detail to it, but it feels very winterish to me. If there were some touches of gold perhaps, or maybe if it was just a little warmer. I think the whites of her eyes are a little too white, they should be a little warmer. This is still a beautiful peice regardless though.

My wise and extremely attractive associate, ~Keshovi , had some comments: "If you really want it to get drilled... the open sky makes me think summer... but that's just a personal opinion. Composition wise, it needs more towards the top to balance it out. It might help if the twigs(?) in her hair were a tad more evident, because currently they look kinda like rigid hairs... I guess that all I've got to say." He also mentioned that perhaps she should have something along the lines of a wreath of flowers in her hair ("though that's kinda hokey...").
Personally, I think the bottom of the picture is too brown for spring, and the monarch (?) isn't a spring butterfly, is it? There's also something about her face that looks awkward to me, but I can't name it so I wouldn't worry about it unless someone else mentions the same thing. ^^

first of all..its amazing.. but since you want brutal opinions that you can (and probebly should) ignore, he we go:
I think the first pic had a better color palet.. spring is grean- clean and new.. the greyish brown looks more like winter to me.. her face looks so young and innocent, but her hair looks almost dull and old.... the whole tone seems more sad than the first too. Also I like the softness of your coloring, but would like a smidge more detail on the neck and colar area, just so the realness of her face doest look so disjointed.. broadening the focus might make the pic as a whole pop - I see TONS of AMAZING detail above and below, but that should/neck line just doesnt match. *shrug* hopefully that helps, I think it's beautiful and wish you luck in the contest. ^_^

as much as this is a beautiful piece, i just am more drawn to the original. She seems to have more emotion going on, and feels more like the face of spring then this one. This one gives off a later time it seems to me...still a gorgous piece of work though. You have terrific talent

This is beautiful, but I prefer the original piece.
The face of the first one was truly gorgeous--she had an ethereal, elfin, and utterly light-filled expression, from her clear blue eyes to her lightly glossed lips. To me, she captured the essense of spring, showing serenity after the harshness of winter, yet simultaneously shining joy and life.
The foilage and flowers surrounding her shoulders in this piece are much more detailed, but less vibrant, compared to the other piece, in terms of both color and motion.
I'd never be able to paint as well as you, either way XD. Wonderful job on both.
