Description Fanart for Barricade Day. Tried to finish it on June 6th, but that didn't work out.

One of the most beautiful/ depressing scenes in Les MisΓ©rables: the death of Enjolras and Grantaire. R.I.P.

There are a ton of things that I am unhappy with...Perhaps one day I will revisit it and try to do the scene justice.

Um...I know this may be a lot to ask, but I am doing an illuminated manuscript of Orestes Fasting and Pylades Drunk for a school project and I was wondering if I could use this as reference for the art (like the border and the small scenes on the sides) it wouldn't be a copy of it just used as something to look at. If you do not mind, that is.

Oh my goodness. I nearly teared up. This is so beautiful and sad... You've done some wonderful work, and if you do revisit this scene someday I'd love to see that!

I have to agree, I already knew these guys were going to die, but this was the pair of deaths next to Valjean for me. God that scene gets me all the time. Even in the musical....

Ah, yes. I know exactly what you're talking about, with the characters feeling like friends. And then it's sometimes even worse carrying the knowledge of their fate as you read. Ah well, at least they can always be resurrected briefly for another reading, if that's any consolation. Oh, and that their ideals live on.

Wow. Just... well... wow. This is so sad, and so well-rendered. I love the inset details, and the grain of the wood. The bottom inset panel impressed me very much. Gorgeous work!!

HEYY WHOA
this is beautiful. Why did I never see this before? It's beautiful. WOW.
And with the beautiful border and everything, it really looks like the sort of illustration you'd see in an edition of the Brick itself. Well done...

Thank you! Yeah, sorry about the blurriness, but it was too large to fit in a scanner and I suck at photography.

AyA-KR In reply to That-Poor-Tyrant [2011-01-13 10:42:55 +0000 UTC]

yeah, it's difficult to make a photo of a pic like this... I don't know how to do it neither.
Have you tried to scan in parts and match them with photoshop? Sometimes I do that if the draw is too big for the scanner.

Fantastiiiiiiiiic. Wow, just wow. I love how it looks like 15th-16th century illustration, with the heavy gilded border and insets. And of course, our dear Orestes and Pylades. Enjolras looks so peaceful. I also admire the coloring and shading on their clothing and the blood. These are all things I cannot do x)

Thank you so very much! Giant borders are a great deal of fun to do, if somewhat wearisome, but I'm glad you liked it.

This is really good. I love the detailed edges - the colours you chose look great -, and the picture in the centre is just gorgeous. Heartbreaking but very well done. I could so see this illustrating some edition of the book!

Great. In the Canon, that scene makes me so sad but your picture is so beautiful. And I love the graceful frame.

I wonder who is the person in the left side of frame. I think Enjolras or Combeferre. X)

Hmm... the person might be Combeferre, or just a random student depending on whether or not I decide to change his design again.

Oh, and welcome to dA!
