Ok, so here we go:started it with watercolor and prismacolor pencil on Rives bfk paper (toned)
then mounted it on to masonite and covered it with a matte gel medium and did oil rubs on top of the dried gel medium.

I'm still learning. Everything kinda clicked around junior year of collage.
You're in high school so you have a lot of time a head of you. Just keep researching and practicing and it will come to you.

yeah, the sides of the piece are thin wooden pieces nailed into the sides to give it depth

I would like to mount one of my drawings on wood--do you recommend masonite? Does it matter what kind of wood you mount the drawing onto? I'm making a trip to Home Depot today.
