Description
Asequui heard a cawing from above and saw a hawk circling overhead. It landed on top of a very short tree. There was no hope in getting it. Unless...She crawled silently over to the tree below the hawk. In an instant, she sprang up and expected to catch the hawk by surprise, but only found downy feathers. The hawk had moved to a different branch.
“Bad luck,” Zonta said. “Don’t worry, you can still catch more.”
Asequui silently strangled the bird in her mind for humiliating her, then went along. “Happens,” she said.
“Yes, every once in awhile,” Zonta agreed.
But Asequui didn’t want to let the bird go. It just sat there on that branch, mocking her without a care in the world. With no thought, Asequui pounced...and hit her head on the tree branch above her.
“Asequui! You furball! Are you ok?” Zonta quickly ran to her side.
“Ouuuch!” Asequui exclaimed. She saw stars. There were two. They were dancing. Why were they dancing? “I’m fine.” She kept her eyes on the dancing stars. They howled in joy. “Yaaaay!” Asequui squealed, happy for the stars.
Zonta looked at her like she was crazy. “Uh...yeah, you need to go see the healer.”
“Why are you looking at me like that? Look, actual stars!” Asequui pointed to the sky, where there were actually two twinkling stars in the sky, even though it was day. “See, pretty!”
Zonta laughed. “I thought you were going crazy for a bit,” she said, shaking her head. She gazed at the stars. “Strange.”
Asequui’s vision blurred a little and she rubbed the bumb on her head. “Two stars during daytime, eh? Oh, four...no, two...okay, maybe I do need a healer.”
Zonta shook her head. “That’s what you get for being a furball.” She dragged Asequui to her feet.
