INFORMATION
Something that I've been working on off and on for over a month. I'll probably post his second reference/identity later... it's more relevant to his back story than his current state, so I didn't think of it as a priority. Plus it leaves a bit of mystery for Mr. Sam. : >

Personality:

Sam can be described as the generic nice guy-- the guy who you'd want to have as a friend to lean on in time of need. Friendly, optimistic, compassionate, and polite, Sam is in every sense of the word a gentleman. Although soft spoken, he couldn't really be described as shy. He's actually very outgoing.

If someone is in need of help, he won't think twice in helping them out. (if they're a person of good standing, of course! Even if not, he'd try to steer them in the right moral direction...) He basically acts as a guide to those who enter Nevara and don't know who they are, what they're doing there, where they're going, or are in some sense of the term lost or lonely.

He has a strong set of morals, and is very traditional--meaning he's exceedingly polite to women, frequently going out of his way to give them extra help. Some women may take offense to this, but he means no harm, nor sees women as of in need of extra assistance... he just likes to really nice to girls. He values life above everything else, and will do whatever it takes to preserve someone's well being if he can.

He's really forgiving and understanding. Unfortunately because of this, he's likely to repeat mistakes if dealing with someone who obviously isn't trustworthy. He's just way too optimistic most of the time, and often won't follow up on any negative suspicions he may have about people.

Background:
Sam lives in an area that can be described as a huge field of tall, golden grass--with a quaint farmhouse in the center of it all. Trees border the edges of his area, but there's nothing beyond them. If you enter the woods you will simply wander into some other location in Nevara. This house is the spitting image of the home he grew up in, and is one of his most fond memories. People who show up are more than likely lost, in need of guidance, or simply want a friend to help them through their troubles. And Sam is of course more than glad to help.

Sam only exists in Nevara, and is ONLY able to exist there now--but that's not how it's always been. He wasn't always a pumpkin-headed scarecrow, nor was he ever confined to only existing in the realm. And his name wasn't always Sam.

He once was a man...really, he still is, but for personal reasons he chooses to be in this form for the majority of his time with the exception of when he's with Lelah. Because of how close they are, he's comfortable with sharing his human appearance with her.

He's very sensitive on the subject of what happened to him and who he was in reality, so it's very unlikely he will open up to anyone unless he feels very close to them. (which is hard to gauge since he's unconditionally nice to everyone) If you directly ask him he's more than likely to change the subject as quickly as possible, or dodge around the answer as much as he can.

Why does Sam choose to stay in the image of a scarecrow?

During his initial arrival to Nevara, he didn't actually remember who he was as a man. So for a while that was the only identity he knew, and he grew extremely attached to that image of himself. After his time with Lelah in Nevara, he was able to get back his memories as a man. He is able to change at will, but the person he became in Nevara was who he decided to stay as. A new life with new opportunities and purpose.

Does he miss his old life? Yes, very much so. He doesn't dislike his old identity, and he often thinks of the people he left behind, namely his Grandmother. One of the things that troubles him, however, is how lonely he feels. He is often visited by Lelah, but it's difficult at times knowing he'll never be able to be with her. He's met a lot of people with his time in Nevara, but only to help them leave it and find their way to where they're supposed to go. So they never really stick around for too long. In result, he tries his best not to get too attached to anyone...though that too is rather difficult for him to do.

On his exterior he projects an enthusiastic, happy, eager, and friendly guy, but there's more injury to Sam than he would ever let on.

Combat Style
Sam isn't really much of a fighter. He will defend himself and his friends if the need arises--but he will only ever use his fire as a last resort. He

knows how dangerous and harmful it is. He can fight physically, but he lacks any major strength given the fact he's made of straw.

He can control the intensity to whatever he sees fit, ranging it from a small flame to the power of a blast furnace. The use of his fire is limited, however. The fire he uses comes from the inside of his head--if he uses too much at once he runs the risk of passing out until the flame replenishes itself.

Sam will never burn in his own flames--or fire from any other source for that matter. As long as it is still on his person, he can prevent any fire he produces from harming someone. (Someone could literally put their hand inside of his head or a flame that he's holding and it won't hurt them...unless he wants it to, but Sam wouldn't do that.) However, as soon as the fire leaves his person, he can't control whether it will hurt someone else or not.
