"Stop slacking Jaeger!" Levi shook his head. He walked past the cadet, narrowing his eyes. Jaeger quickly went back to work instead of talking with Armin beside him. Both cadet's moved fast. Levi tsked. The cadet's sucked at cleaning, but he would make sure they got the job done; no matter how long it took them. Levi scanned the yard, keeping tabs on each of the cadets under his care. His brow furrowed. One was missing.

"Jaeger?"

"Yes sir?" the cadet asked slowly.

"Where's cadet l/n?" His steely eyes scanned the area once again, looking for you. It seemed quiet without you, which should have alerted him right away.

Jaeger sighed. "I believe she's in the stables sir."

Of course. Levi gave Jaeger a short nod, waving for him to continue his work. He didn't understand you obsession with that damn horse of yours. As he walked to the stables he shook his head. Of course every scout had a bond with their horse, but you seemed to care more about your stead than any other. You took care of the stables without having to be asked, keeping the stalls clean and making sure nothing blocked the aisles.Usually a cadet cleaning without being asked or punished would be a good thing. But Levi usually left cleaning the barn for reluctant cadets. You ruined that.

He stopped short just at the barn door, hearing your laughter. It made his heart skip a beat. His feelings for you left him confused. The way you always smiled, no matter the situation, and the way you raised your head proudly, even after defeat, left him feeling proud. He enjoyed watching your spar with the other cadets. The graceful way you moved kept his eyes glued to you. The first time he'd seen you fall during a match he almost rushed forward to help you. Your laugh stopped him. You'd sat in the dirt, grinning up at Jean.

"Let's try that again!" you'd said cheerfully.

Your laughter brought him out of the memory. He leaned against the barn door, deciding to let you finish your cleaning. He planned on giving you a strict talk about following orders. The thoughts of made his lips twitch up in a smirk, bit it didn't last long.

"Do you wonder what it would be like if there weren't any titans?" you asked, and he knew you were speaking to the horses. He titled his head closer to the door in interest. "A place where we could gallop across a field without fear of those monsters? Where we could travel and see new things?" You sighed in longing. "It'd be beautiful. Titans only eat humans so you guys would all be safe if we let you go. You could run and be...alive. Not locked up in here."

Levi looked up the clear blue sky, closing his eyes to picture such a world. He could see himself riding alongside you, happy to just be with you. In a world with no titans would he be a different person? Would he actually tell you how he felt? That he wanted to wake up beside you every morning and kiss you without caring who saw? He'd love to see a world where people walked without fear. Where seeing new things wasn't a death wish.

But you lived in this world. The horses whinnied and he knew you were stroking one of their muzzles. Levi knew you'd press a kiss to the animal's forehead. He longed to see the softness in your eyes. He felt like a coward. Levi, humanities last hope, felt like a coward. There had been many times he wanted to tell you how he felt. All his life Levi had told others exactly what was on his mind, not caring what they would think of feel. Yet he could barely speak to you without suddenly becoming defensive, frightened of what you thought about him.

"I wish the world would be like that," he heard you murmur, your words a bit muffled. He peeked around the corner. Your face was buried in the horse's neck. The animal stood still, playfully nipping at your long, flowing hair. It was on of the odd moments you had it down. And for the first time since he had met you, you were frowning. "Where I wouldn't be afraid to do what I want. To love and be loved. But you don't have those worries, do you girl. Maybe someday...somehow, we'll get away from here. We'll be free to leave."

"I'd go with you." The words left his mouth, and Levi cursed himself for speaking. You yelped, pulling away from the horse. Deciding he didn't need to hide anymore, Levi stepped into your sight.

"Sir!" You saluted him, a bright smile on your face, but he realized how pained that smile was. "I was just...cleaning sir."

"I know what you were doing, cadet."

"I know I was supposed to be helping the others but I wanted...I wanted..."

He smiled. Actually smiled. This brought a look of confusion to your face. He walked forward, stopping when he was only inches away. Heart racing, he took your face in one of his hands.

"S-sir?"

His lips were on yours. It shocked him when he returned the kiss quickly, arms wrapping around his neck. It was a passionate kiss. You only broke away, your cheeks flushed, when you needed air. He found your embarrassed expression cute. Slowly, he kissed you again, but it only lasted for a moment.

"Sir?" you breathed you, voice shaking a little.

"Yes?" His steely gray eyes met yours. You smiled softly, kissing his cheek. That small sign of affection had him wrapping his arms around you, holding you close. You nuzzled into his shoulder.

"There's no way I'd go without you."

The two stood there silently. He held you close, eyes closed to picture a day when you could leave the corps. When your skills wouldn't be needed to kill titans anymore.
