Oh wow!
I really wish I'd thought of these when I needed a ref for bitterns for painting them a while ago, I could have really used them! They're from such crazy angles

for a starter, their feet seem enormous =] and their stature is indeed extremely theropod-like yes, I know all birds are theropods, but tell that to a penguin.

Bittern's are just wonderful. I would love to see one! You must have had amazing views to get such an amazing shot as this.

Nice shot! I just love his posture, it's so dinosaur-like. And his feathers are just astounding! The color contrast between the snow and him is just awesome. Kudos!

Nice shot again... Do you have any photos of him trying to hide by impersonating a reed ? The only time I saw bitterns, they tried to play the trick and it worked quite well for a long period but when you finally notice it isn't a reed right in front of you... It's really a magical moment !

Ahhh such an adorable birdie! Kinda reminds me of a mini moa! Nice shot, I'd be too distracted by trying to catch it and pet it, lol!

great shots, to my understanding you don't often see Bitterns move far out of the reeds so you were lucky to catch him like this!

certainly a more flattering angle for your Bittern than the head on shot. Brilliant again.

Wonderful composition, colour, clarity. I hear bitterns once in a while, but have yet to photograph one. They are usually pretty shy.

So beautiful! They do walk a bit strange, and their call is even more weird.
