i saw some movies or maybe it was an anime-- they steal precious art works and sell it illegally and i just don't know why and how they're not caught X)

this is late, but after seeing this, I just had to say this:
Even though [the painting] was stolen, it was recovered several months later, and was put back on display.
However, in 2004, it was stolen again, along with the painting, Madonna, from the Munch Museum. They were also recovered in 2006. However they got damaged, so after being recovered they went under restoration till late 2008, where they're put back up on display where they currently are.
I know a lot about paintings /feels like a nerd

I heard about another theft that they haven't figured out yet. The guys cut the canvas right out of the frames.

Yeah, it makes me sad though, that they did that to the paitings, and now we can't look at them.
