Lighting-wise, this looks okay to me. I'm guessing the main reason why it looks odd to you is that the light source is positioned behind the hand, and yet the background grows lightest towards the top, which would suggest a light source above and in front of the hand. The solution, then, would be to invert the background so that the bottom of the canvas is lightest. You might want to add some reflected light to the right of the hand, too, but I'm not completely certain whether it would work with the light souce in the end. On another note, I like how you rendered the girl's shadow in a very subtle red, since it echoes the background and adds more unity to the piece. As for the background itself, though...I don't like it so much. Due to the sparseness of strokes - especially in the lower left quadrant - it looks rough and unfinished in comparison to the refined rendering of the both the hand and girl. If you were going for something impressionist-flavored, then it works to an extent, but I still can't help but feel that more strokes could have been used. Overall, though, thanks to the excellent rendering on both the hand and girl (especially her hair), the image came out well.

I already commented on the closeup, pretty much all I had to say was there, but I have one thing to say about this one.
The hand you made is really excellently done.
You did insanely well with the proportions and with the pose.
I can actually make that exact pose with my hand, it's so accurate.
Anyone reading this, just go and try posing your hand like that, you can do it if you know how to arrange your hand right.
