Description I was completely lost in the wonder of this sunset.

The soft colors combined with the sound of the warm breeze were a welcome contrast to the hustle and grind of daily life.

Our concept of time becomes irrelevant as one witnesses a spectacle as old as time itself, a sunset.

Great Salt Lake, Utah.

Canon 5D. 24-105mm. Circ Polarizer.

Even without the monoliths, this would have been a good shot. The sky has something of the past about it. We could be looking through a time portal.

Thank you very much, I'm glad you like them.

Many of my recent shots are taken at the Great Salt Lake which is a huge body of water not far from Salt Lake City, hopefully I'll have some shots of distant lands soon as I'll be able to travel! Where are you at?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SpitfireShepherd In reply to tourofnature [2008-07-22 02:49:54 +0000 UTC]

No problem. :3

Indeed huge! There are so many different sections... was it a normal land area once or was it always lake? Cause there seem to be lots of fences and stuff mixed in there...
I'm over in Southern California, about an hour and a half southwest of Los Angeles.
I do remember flying over the great lake once, on my way to New Mexico. :3

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tourofnature In reply to SpitfireShepherd [2008-07-22 03:07:12 +0000 UTC]

It is huge, I've still got a lot to explore. I just got some Kayaks so those should help me see more of the lake. The lake itself is the what's left of a prehistoric lake called lake Bonneville, which covered almost all of Utah some of Idaho and Nevada. Now that would've been a big lake!

As for the old fences and stuff, I think those have to do with the fluctuating water levels, when its higher they're in the water, I guess when it was lower they had their purposes.

tourofnature In reply to SpitfireShepherd [2008-07-23 19:51:16 +0000 UTC]

If I've got time, I head out after work to shoot the sunset, especially if its stormy or the clouds look cool. The only drawback is the water stink because of flies on the shores!

Another nice shot
how do you like the Canon 5D. 24-105mm?
much of a wide angle lens?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tourofnature In reply to DrewHopper [2008-07-22 01:28:24 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

The 24-105 is a great lens, the range is fantastic for a wide angle lens. I do wish it were a bit wider and faster, my next lens will be the 16-35 2.8. The 24 is a great all around lens tho.

Do you know much on the Canon 10-20 being a decent wide angle lens?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tourofnature In reply to DrewHopper [2008-07-22 01:37:48 +0000 UTC]

I've heard its a good lens based on online reviews. Some photographers here on DA are creating great shots with the Sigma 10-22, that's an option you may want to look into as well.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DrewHopper In reply to tourofnature [2008-07-22 01:39:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I have noticed a lot are using the Sigma 10-20 and the Sigma is cheaper!
I will have to have a shop around I guess.
Do you use filters at all?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tourofnature In reply to DrewHopper [2008-07-22 01:50:43 +0000 UTC]

I always have a UV filter on my lenses, and the only other filter I'm using now is a circular polarizer, which if you aren't already using one, you should start. Next I'll get some ND graduated filters.

DrewHopper In reply to tourofnature [2008-07-22 01:59:46 +0000 UTC]

What does the circular polarizer do to your shots? and when should you use it?
