Description
This is another simple tutorial and the subject this time (as I'm often asked) is how to set up MMD city models and what and how to use the MME Rule of Thirds tool. The Rule of Thirds
Is a set of rules used by classical artists and basically its a composition tool. Modern art doesn't put a lot of emphasis on it and many art classes don't even teach it. However, it's a major tool used by professional photographers and to a lesser extent, graphic designers.
Whether you choose to use this method of composition is a decision you need to make for yourself, but the theory and the tool are available should you choose to use it. I use it a lot, and you can see this in the work displayed in my gallery.
Here is the Wikipedia article on the Rule of Thirds, and it puts down the entire theory in a nutshell: [link]
If you want to learn more about this theory, just Google "Rule of Thirds". There are hundreds of excellent articles on its theory and application in both classic and modern arts; especially photography which is specially applicable to what we do with MMD.

The original Rules of Thirds MME tool is not compatible with the current versions of MMD, so it has probably taken down.
A good alternative is the Kozu tool and it can be downloaded from Bowlroll:
1. D/L: bowlroll.net/file/3787
2. Password is here: www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm17301…

You will see that if the effect is incompatible with your system unfortunately. It happens on my netbook too.

Good news, I found another alternative to use the Rule of Thirds but it's not really related to MMD. It's a software you have to download. This is what I found.

I REALLY like MMDers like you!
You go out, do your own research and find solutions to problems that you have with MMD, AND you tell other people about the things you've found including links.
OUTSTANDING! You really made my day and I am really glad to have "met" you.

Glad I could help. Unfortunately I just found out that the software isn't free. Sorry about that. However, I found a good trick to use the rule of thirds without using any software.
Step 1: Download the Rule of Thirds 16:9 photo from Google Image.
Step 2: Load the Rule of Thirds as a background photo in MMD.
Step 3: Load up your models and stage.
Step 4-1: If the file for your stage happens to be PMD or PMX, press V to make everything transparent so that you can see the Rule of Thirds in the background to make it easier for you to position your models.
Step 4-2: If the stage file happens to be an accessory file, all you need to do is to undisplay the stage with the accessory manipulator then display it back once you position you models.
Hope this helps.

Or you can just do it all in your head, which is what I do very often. But you could also use a piece of acetate with the rules of third drawn on it and just overlay it on top of the monitor screen; which was what we sometimes used to do in the "old days".

Is it? If true, it would be a great pity. It's an interesting urban model.

Rule of Thirds is so easy to use, why would it be "annoying"?
Almost all art styles have some form of compositional regime, The Rule of Thirds is just one of them and it's been around for centuries. But when you really get down to the mathematics behind it, that's when you really begin to appreciate the genius that underlies the system and a greater appreciation for the classical artist, mathematicians and philosophers who contributed to the system.

I know that it's easy to use, but because I NEVER have to use it for my picture it became annoying because may art teacher made us use it even without needing to.
You're right about it being a good tool by the way, but when you don't have to use it and are forced to use it... just... Grrr, that's all I have to say.

That's a part of art training - you get introduced to all sorts of new things, tools, techniques, etc. Keep an open mind. Do as the instructors ask, try them out. See what works for you and what doesn't and move on from there.
Art class isn't so much about making art, it's about how to make art and sometimes you will come across things, projects or techniques that may be annoying. But stick it through as you never know, some of these things may be useful down the line if you take up art or a related discipline as a career.

big in photography, in the left third moving to the center it creates a sense of "positive" motion, while if its in the right third moving out or the left third moving out it creates "negative" motion. something in the top left ninth moving to the center is very dynamic... i must say... like an anime or kung fu movie XD the way my photography teacher taught it there are 2 sets of thirds, horizontal and vertical

There's several theoretical approaches to the "rules", personally I like these rules married to the Fibonacci Series. However, used here though, it's more of a "if it looks right' kind of an approach ... ><
Thanks for the comment

no problem! to be fair alot of art rules are flexible, although some are pretty rigid, like with the rule of thirds, having something set to one side makes it look cluttered there and way too open everywhere else.

It's a tool, and a useful one, but not always applicable in all situations. As I've been taught in Art class; ultimately you have to trust your own eyes and use "that which the Almighty put in between your ears" (as one of my lecturers put it).

I found that bytatsu.net (download links) has changed.
by using google translate, it appears that you are being informed that it had been broken down into categories.
Most important, next step is to click on the HTML link
these are located under the.....
For migration information in the file (section)
many files have been transferred and I am not sure if any more than what I have found so far..
hope it helps

Sorry, but no can do; I can't go around distributing other people's models without their permission.
There's a reason why I posted: DO NOT ASK FOR MODEL OR EFFECT LINKS, THANKS
This page is supposed to be a tutorial on how to do certain things in MMD. It is not a model download page nor am I in the business of giving out links. If I had the link, it would probably already be there in the description. There are some MMDers who are very good at logging and sharing links; and we are all grateful to them; however, that's their forte, not mine.
I find it extremely disrespectful to be asked for links when specifically I have expressed stated not to be asked. It is not that I have not been unhelpful to you in the past with access to models; but there's got to be a limit and all I am asking is that respect that.

I'm not mad.
Seriously, I've would have given you the link the first time you asked if I had it. You can ask ~GM34 , nicely, to help with navigating that site where the link lead to; he figured out how to navigate the site. The model is still there.

Mad ... if I was mad I'd have blocked you by now LOL
Annoyed ... probably about 1/2 an hour ago, you're not very good at getting hints are you? LOL
But put simply, if I had the lihk, it would have been in the description. If I don't have it I either put a reference to where I've looked in the past or at least the full model name. So, for future reference, if you don't see the link in the description, I most likely don't have it.
Cheers.
